I wondered if the powers that be might have sensibly decided it was no longer needed now the Markham Moor roundabout just round the corner has been GSJ'd.

A12 in Essex may get yellow vultures. I agree with the last paragraph where the cameras will exacerbate the problem by bunching up traffic.

It got bagged over only a few months after the change in visibility regulations; I believed as it was on a sweeping bend, it wasn't visible early enough for the speed of the road.

A68 Gatso sawn off. Is anyone nearby able to get some pictures for me? It's too far and I'm not travelling that way until the 19th. It may well be repaired by then.

I don't think they repair them that fast... I seem to recall a sawn off Gatso near Soutra, in a southbound direction.
There are far too many cameras on the Scottish side of the A68.
We should really change the sign at Carter Bar to read "Welcome to Scotland - Beware of Speed Cameras"

I was up near A90 Lonmay yesterday, burnt out camera is still, well, burnt out... I've got some pics if your interested.

A90 Stonehaven camera is still bagged.

On the subject of speed cameras every mobile camera site in my back yard currently has one of those rubber tube speed monitors in place, so they are up to something out my way.

According to this article, all West Midlands fixed speed cameras are to be turned off next April whilst the councils discuss spending nearly half a million quid on digital replacements. This includes traffic light cameras, which surprises me. Delighted that my hard-earned wages went towards all that redundant technology and looking forward to funding the replacements.

Which explains why so many vandalised Gatsos haven't been replaced.

Though how long will it be before those wet film cameras are back on. I'd suggest there's some relationship between the increased level over some years of the increased limit for a SAC and loss of Gov't funding to kep SCP going. I suppose it depends on how much return they wil get on the SAC course fee.
The bit about not being replaced as there's been engineering works - well look at the ABD site about the Ryton ones. But then the cameras will get th praise for safety -not the new junction ( including a roundabout) layout .

Digital photography has one facility that is not available in wet-film photography - digital recognition of number plates. Recognising numberplates on a wet-film camera requires human intervention, digital recognition can be done automatically. I am however keeping my own councel as to whether or not this is desireable.

Another advantage of digital commeras is that the image can be transferred to a remote location within milliseconds - no fear of losing ther image if somebody decides to smash the camera after it has flashed.

I was under the impression that this was never used, primarily because courts want primary evidence - thus the actual physical record, normally an SD card with digital cameras, must be preserved. In theory a copy could be transmitted using mobile but why stretch the ticket tubbies limited braincells setting this up when they need to collect the SD card anyway.

Also, the cameras are rotated so it still needs a scam van to visit. The advantage for the scammers of SD cards is that at "lucrative" sites they can capture thousands of images in the ten days or so the camera can be left before the SD card needs collecting.

Brilliant. By the way, it wasn't me.

There's a fine line between improving road safety, and being a money-making scam. The A68 takes the piss, as does the entire 'Special' A1. Every single camera on that road is a cash cow, and I don't see how they do anything to improve safety. They all need :burnsc:

According to the Border Telegraph, this morning, a speed camera was stolen on the A68 at St Boswells.

There's an interesting article here about the M25 variable speed limit cameras.
