What doesn't help is that the road is a TOTSO and until recently didn't show up on a lot of sat navs. I've lost track of the number of times I've been phoned by delivery companies asking which one of the two roads I'm actually on.

Either way compass directions on the road number when used in conjunction actual primary destinations just look silly, Yes we know from Perth Inverness is North and Stirling is South without having to be told.
I'm trying remember which one was patched... the original plate I'm sure had Inverness A9(S)
Think it's the same person who renumbered Broxden to M90 J12...
Nothing wrong with that I hear you cry - other than the lurid yellow colour, discouraged by TSM?
Except what if you are in a car encountering that in a one way street where do you go - you cannot turn round. So of course there will be warning at the start of the road? nope. Of course you can make the signs out from there if you are going straight on, so there will be something on the other arms of the crossroad? 'fraid not
So nothing at all? Well this rather manky sign will do the job assuming you are not in lane 2 with double deckers or LGVs blocking your view of it.

That is a pet peeve of mine, living almost straight across from Birmingham it wasn't (haven't been in years so it might have changed) very useful to come out of somewhere like the NEC only to see a sign that offers only North or South when I want to go East.
When the Heartlands Parkway/Fort Parkway opened, so getting on for 15 years ago. Modern equivalent should read "B4114".

A nice polite sign on Westray. Also, I didn't actually realise there were any speed bumps or traffic calming on the outer isles of Orkney, but it seems Westray has some outside its school. We managed perfectly fine without any on Sanday, at least! I think they have now put a 40mph limit outside Sanday School, though. But, I digress...
