The oncoming vehicles sign should really be much further back with a road narrows plate. It doesn't need to be a blue informatory sign then.

But yes, that assembly is horrendous.

There's actually yet another sign, for Newcastle & Anchor, on that same mishmash - also in Helvetica

And is the car park for the "community area" the same as the free car park which has already been signed above?

Absolutely dreadful.

Perhaps not a bodge, but rather surprising and inappropriate:

There are a handful of these tiny little things around the Redditch Cloverleaf.

Let's see a closeup:

The best I ever saw was a sign in a cemetery in Chepstow. One of the Es had weathered away so that it looked like an O, and it read:

"The exorcising of dogs is strictly prohibited".

Was a portable VMS sign on the A50 east of Derby displaying 'Road Closed Overnight' or something equally informative this morning.

Then on the stretch down to J24 was a yellow sign saying

'Road closed here
[Dates]
Night time only'

Great.

Is that just a get out which allows them to put the cones out at whatever time they fancy?

This has probably been posted before but I didn't find it after a search.

Just what is going on here?

The idea is that "Night time" is generally 10pm to 6am, a very typical time period for night time closures. Any closure that starts before 10 or is due to end after 6 and the times should be quoted, e.g. "9pm to 7am"

They seem just as likely to start at 8pm as 10 in my experience, especially when it's not a motorway.

Mind you the first warning you get of most closures is usually a row of cones, so better than nothing I guess.

This is all horrible - Directional signs here don't match the road layout.

Southbound:
Here three lanes are listed, with lane 1 being a left turn
https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.69019 ... ZvCIrw!2e0

However, lane 1 continues through the signals and is a left turn clockwise onto the M25: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.68841 ... bXzsaA!2e0

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.68497 ... LXox8g!2e0

Northbound is a similar situation: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.68578 ... kGG12g!2e0
Here shows Lane 1 and 2 to the A10, and lane 3 into the print works. However, lane 3 actually continues straight ahead, with a right filter lane appearing: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.68756 ... DNnJsg!2e0 . Lane 1 then is directed left at the next roundabout: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.68953 ... 8JUVSQ!2e0

These signage issues cause congestion and minor collisions, with traffic not knowing early enough which lanes to be in and stopping/changing lane at the last minute...

Nottingham City Council's own notices about that say

4th August – 19th September
M1 J24 South Bridge will be closed overnight for 7 weeks between 8.00pm (9.00pm on Fridays) and 6.00am, with narrow lanes in place during the day.

12th-15th and 19th-22nd September
ADVANCE NOTICE. M1 J24 South Bridge will be closed 24/7 over these weekends

Ongoing – January 2015
To increase capacity of the junction there will be various overnight works to the approach road and circulatory carriageway. This will involve road and lane closures between 8.00pm (9.00pm on Fridays) and 6.00am, with narrow lanes in place during the day.

I find that I see too many advance closure signs and my use of the motorway is too unpredictable; I never make a note of the dates on these signs and wouldn't pay attention to the times either.

When I see "night time only", I remember that if I use the motorway in the late evening in the next few weeks I might have to take a diversion. That's enough for me.

More often than not the road isn't closed on the dates stated anyway.

A few months back signs went up and we even had a letter from the HA to work warning of the M42 being shut from J9- 10 on certain dates. It didn't happen. They did it a few weeks later instead seemingly without putting any signs up.

This is on the UCLAN campus in Preston, the road which runs Perpendicular to the view has been made one way for roadworks, there is a temporary "No right turn" sign behind where I was stood, but the "One Way" sign is of course wrong since it is completely legal to continue straight on in the direction shown.

See attachment.

an advanced warning sign went up on a route through town earlier this year that was heavily being used as a diversion for other major roadworks. Comment was passed to the council that this wasn't the best time to be digging up said route and the reply swiftly came back that the works had already been postponed and the signs shouldn't have gone up in the first place. All sensible so far. It was then asked if the sign could be removed and the answer came back as no, no one was working down our way do the signs remained in place for a week (stretching into when the works should have started) before the signs were collected.
2 weeks ago I used the road and was surprised to find the roadworks ongoing, after falsely putting up the signs when not needed they decided for whatever reason to not bother this time and just do the work.

All the villages around Stratford (Long Marston and Welford to name a couple) seem to have annoying little signs with the 30 repeaters with such rubbish as "It's still 30" and "Did you forget?" on them.

If anything made me want to tear through a village at 60, its those...

I wondered if you were going to post that one or the whole avenue of these.

We heard you radio that in, but never did see the actual camera, upside down or otherwise!
