It should say M271 (A3057).

On the A96; it's certainly novel (and a good idea), but surely not authorised?

Re: Botched Roadsigns
They've be used on the A96 for many years, where the laybys are mainly intended for agricultural vehicles, and more recently on the A82.
Re: Botched Roadsigns
Ah I see; anything that encourages slow vehicles to let queues clear is a good move to my mind.
That sign I posted is particularly useful as it comes just before the really naff but between the A97 and Inverurie, which at least is having some improvements done...

This sign is backwards to the way it should be given that it faces traffic entering the roundabout but lists directions from the way the traffic has come!

Re: Botched Roadsigns
They have something similar on parts of the A9 (IIRC they are substatianlly larger), so I suspect they may well be authorised. Bear in mind that the Scottish Ministers have always been quite happy to issue blanket authorizations.Bryn666 wrote:On the A96; it's certainly novel (and a good idea), but surely not authorised?
The police even enforce it.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
There was a temporary sign on the A3 at Guildford. It was on a pretty dark yellow background.
It was next to a layby, and had a text size significantly less than this: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@51.24952 ... 312!8i6656
I think the first line said "A3 closed", no clue what the second line said.
Hope it wasn't important.
Further South, on the A3(M) was a VMS telling us "A3M Closed J3-J5", unlike the VMS on the M25 which was telling us "A3(M) Closed J3-J5"

Re: Botched Roadsigns
A5 Eastbound is closed overnight from the M42 to Dordon. The diversion for HGVs is up to J11 and down the A444.
The signs for the diversion approaching J10 have a straight ahead arrow and 'No access for HGVs'

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Oh dear...
1) The correct abbreviation would be "L. Bridge", not "L'Bridge"
2) More worryingly, does it mean "London Bridge" or "Lambeth Bridge"? The two are in opposite directions from this sign.

Probably written by the same person who wrote something like this, which was displayed on the hard shoulder of the M27 for weeks:Lockwood wrote:I think the first line said "A3 closed", no clue what the second line said.

"A3 north of
Clanfield closed
xxyz 20:00-05:00
for 3 weeks
alternative route
use M27 J11 and
follow diversion"
Although I guess we should count ourselves lucky it didn't end with "Highways England apologises for any inconvenience caused to you by this essential maintenance work."

Re: Botched Roadsigns
These signs are also on the A90 north of Balmedie so they probably are authorised. Incidentally, is there no database accessible online of the authorised non-prescribed signs in Scotland?michael769 wrote:They have something similar on parts of the A9 (IIRC they are substatianlly larger), so I suspect they may well be authorised. Re: Botched Roadsigns
Yes I'd seen that one at Balmedie too.
There was another one I saw that relates specifically to a lay by being required for Scottish Hydro engineers.
I can't remember where but I think near Oldmeldrum??

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Saw this today.
Any idea why the horizontal lines are back?
Think it looks better personally, but not sure why they're being used.

What's this nonsense all about ? Cute little curvy 3/2/1 countdown markers painted on the road before junctions?

They will no doubt have some robust research that shows that such markings work.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Here's another almost gleefully wrong sign from Leeds City Council.
The "M1" I can understand - they made it bigger instead of putting it in Motorway Permanent, and if you were a halfwit who'd never designed a road sign before you might think that was how you got the bigger numbers on motorway signs. But the junction number patch leaves me speechless.
