If you were in the left turn lane and decided you'd like to go straight, presumably that configuration makes it illegal to cross the bus lane to get to the other side?MotorwayGuy wrote:Spotted this thing yesterday.

Similar signs exist on the A406 at Woodford.

I expect it depends on the wording of the TROAndy33gmail wrote:If you were in the left turn lane and decided you'd like to go straight, presumably that configuration makes it illegal to cross the bus lane to get to the other side?MotorwayGuy wrote:Spotted this thing yesterday.
There's a non-compliant attempt at signing the same situation here - I guess Ealing Council didn't wish to apply for authorisation for the prescribed sign so did their own thing.Bryn666 wrote:Similar signs exist on the A406 at Woodford.

Ealing are one of a number of London boroughs (their next door neighbours Brent are in the same club) who have a definite preference for making it up as they go along when designing road signs.Fahad wrote:here - I guess Ealing Council didn't wish to apply for authorisation for the prescribed sign so did their own thing.

Time based restrictions are perfectly OK.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Whereas this similar Bus Lane has no advance signage at all! And almost caught me out the other day because I used to commute along here, and was used to it's previous layout, where you got to hug the island!

You can turn left, go right round the island in about 50 yards then turn left.Andy33gmail wrote:If you were in the left turn lane and decided you'd like to go straight, presumably that configuration makes it illegal to cross the bus lane to get to the other side?MotorwayGuy wrote:Spotted this thing yesterday.
C, E flat and G go into a bar. The barman says "sorry, we don't serve minors". So E flat walks off, leaving C and G to share an open fifth between them.

I hadn't realised that. When did that change?Bryn666 wrote:Time based restrictions are perfectly OK.
Re: Botched Roadsigns
A few posts above there was reference to crossing a bus lane, which prompts me to show this in Watford. When I turn left out of the petrol station and then want to use lane 1 at the traffic signals I suppose I should come out into lane two then move to lane 1 at the end of the bus lane. But what about the common situation here - stationary traffic in lane 2 (queuing for the traffic signals). I can wait for someone to leave me a gap, or just turn in to the bus lane as more or less everyone does anyway. Surely it would be better if the bus lane stopped just short of the petrol station entrance.

Even better, if you turn around there are Give Way markings across the bus lane when traffic entering it would have to cross a solid line.

Surely the wrong way to sign a contraflow cycle lane

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Flying motorcycle was the only lawful way to sign it before 2011.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
In which case, is the 'no entry' a requirement for different reasons.
Possibly to stop those cycle rickshaw things entering.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
The No Entry is just wrong, but probably necessary for motorist comprehension.
The current setup, while non-compliant, is admittedly pretty clear.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
The attached sign's gone up on the A177 on the edge of Durham. The cycle path in question is on a S2 road and does not connect to an on-pavement or contraflow cycle lane...

Re: Botched Roadsigns
I got a reply after contacting Network Rail via their website.
I have spoken with our Risk Manager who agrees that there has been some incorrect lines painted at the level crossing. He has raised this with the contractor who undertook to work on Network Rail's behalf, with a view to getting this mistake rectified as soon as possible.
