Another candidate for the Botched Roadsigns thread:

The original sign Click Here in street view, obviously pre-dating the 1994 TSRGD so not botched by those standards but when being replaced it must now now have the correct primary route panels, 'Motorways' no longer used etc, to be TSRGD 2002 compliant.

Unfortunately that didn't happen! Click Here for the like for like sign they replaced it with.

Someone noticed they had spelt Pudsey wrong and the council undertook to fix the sign, second time lucky, maybe someone would glance at the sign and the TSRGD and see the obvious mistakes but it doesn't look like it.

Click here for the second article
No photo has yet appeared to show the fixed spelling but the article includes this quote from the local councillor which suggests they only replaced the top panel to correct the spelling, ignoring the other mistakes.
Coun John Hardy (Lab, Farnley and Wortley), said the spelling on the sign was put right on Friday, December 30.
He said: “The Highways team and myself as a ward councillor have had a chance to show how quickly things can be done by the Highways team we have in Leeds City Council.”

The councillor added that only the incorrect section of the road sign had been replaced.

What's happened with these: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=doningt ... ,0.47&z=15

Is the 1/2 meant to be squashed in like that?

Have you noticed that the word "mile" is nicely centred?

And yet more cocked up 510s, you don't even need to know it's wrong to see when they just look wonky. Just how hard is it to put the symbol at the correct alignment?

I spotted that, so it's not even a "1 mile" sign that's been reused/modified!

This bridge is signed as 4.5m on approach http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Glasgow ... 43,,0,5.45

But as 4.6m on the bridge itself http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=Glasgow ... 43,,0,5.45.

Probably better than it being the other way around!

here's a bridge which has different heights in opposite directions- probably just as well it's a one way street!

Despite having changed nearly two decades ago, some signs in Ipswich still think the bypass is numbered A45.

The worst example is here, which is actually less than 100 yards from the A14 itself.

There are others, but these are less obvious.

As an aside, the patching on a lot of Ipswich signs is poorly done, with brackets and 4s often still obvious under the patch.

My colleague at work has just received some interesting sign proposals for a new supermarket in Elland...

We are sending corrected versions back to them this week.

...thus nicely transfering any liability onto you if there's still anything wrong with the design. Best solution is just to return the applicant(?) with a rejection letter. No explanation, just a "No". Let them do the running around sorting out their own incompetence. If you want to be evil, bung in a statement about "the inadequate and disappointing level of knowledge displayed by the designer."

I've seen signing proposals from a consultancy based in, AIR, the Huddersfield area on 3 or 4 occasions over the years. The politest way to describe their efforts was that they obviously learned nothing from each scheme, simply repeating the same gross errors every time. Still, it makes the rest of us look good, so no worries, eh?

Spotted this sign in Inverness yesterday. I don't think it's been the B9161 since the Kessock Bridge opened, and this roundabout post-dates the bridge. The road in question is the short B865 (despite what OSM say).

Unfortunately that sort of muscle-flexing is considered counter-intuitive to business interests... I am of the view that the only people who should be designing signs for any S278 development are the Highway Authority themselves, who should be reimbursed with an appropriate fee from the developer for the staff time consumed.

Bryn, You are young - but you will learn!

You need to work in private sector road maintenance for a bit, then you'll see that botched 3rd party sign designs are classed as a 'business opportunity'

I still haven't worked out why 2 signs for Nottingham are needed here.
C, E flat and G go into a bar. The barman says "sorry, we don't serve minors". So E flat walks off, leaving C and G to share an open fifth between them.

Perhaps there's been a crash which took out one of the darker green signs and a new one has been installed with both flag signs on one board but the remaining older sign has yet to be removed?
How would you like your grade separations, Sir?

These two street names face each other in Rothwell, Northamptonshire. Sorry that the second is a bit shaky!

The first one is the correct spelling.
