Only my dodgy sense of homour.

Driving in my car by Madness has the line 'I drove along the A45'. Presumably had the song been recorded more recently it would be 'I drove along the A14' (or indeed the B645)

Depends which part it was... Don't forget the A4500 also! And most of the western half of the A45 is more or less the same as it was 30 years ago!

Malcolm Middleton has a song called Speed On The M9 - he lives (or did at one point in his life) in Falkirk as well so it all adds up.

Erm... I thought it did... Like "2! 4! 6! 8! Mo-tor-way!"

Not according to this site (and I checked on others too)

Another TRB motoring-related song was 'Grey Cortina'.

I remember a chap at school raving about how great the Tom Robinson Band was when 'Motorway' was released.

You've never seen anyone change their opinion so fast when the follow-up single came out...

How about 'Fat cats with a death-wish on the M25'? A humorous little ditty about a certain breed of sports-car driver. Here it is...

Erm... Wouldn't that be some road in America?

Definitely the M25.

I thought it was about the A1? Himself being from the North East an' all, howay man liike (etc) ;) .

But this "M25/A1" debate has been going on for, ooh, about 26 years now :) ... It was a topic of debate when I was (just) in high school  !

According to Wikipedia, the Magic Roundabout in Swindon "inspired the song 'English Roundabout', a pop song by the Swindon band XTC, which was recorded for their 1982 album English Settlement."

Mind you, according to Wikipedia, the Swindon Magic Roundabout inspired a children's TV show of the same name... :P

It's possible that Mister Brown goes off to town on the A21.
However, he might go off to town on the 8:21.

It's definately the 8:21!

Oh, and I actually thought Chris Rea was American... Shows what I know...

I'll also add, as it isn't in the list, Blur's 'For Tomorrow' mentions The Westway!

Electric Avenue by Eddie Grant - named after Electric Avenue in Brixton

Where IS Eddy Grant from? I'm not sure...

he's from Guyana but must've spent quite some time in London.

Gorillaz had a song called "M1A1", with the lyrics "M1A1 - thousand miles an hour". I'm presuming that M1A1 refers to the M1-A1 Link Road but I'm probably wrong there. without interviewing Damon Alburn there'd be no way of telling

Not strictly a musical road, but a prime example of the dangers you used to come across on the old A9!

Prog-rock band Sky - which included classical guitarist John Williams, as well as Herbie Flowers and Francis Monkman - had a track called "Westway". It was an instrumental, of course, they never had vocals on any track.

Now Damon Alburn joins my 'where's he from'? list... (Yes, I know he's British, but whereabouts, I'm not sure...)

I thought I'd mentioned it before.

Doves - M62 Song

From The Last Broadcast album.

Recorded under the M62, gives it a bit of a surreal backing track, a little American-style ditty about moonshine.

Anyone else out there ever heard "A413 Revisited" by John Otway?
