There's really not many in this country. Travelled implies that you were either the passenger or the driver.

There are thousands of C-roads in this country, it's just that the majority of them aren't signed. You will struggle to go about your daily business without using one.

Exactly. Everyone who has ever driven a car in the UK will have driven a C-road.

Have I ever driven a signed C-road? Yes, more than one.

I've driven Q and U roads as well.

Exactly. You might as well ask "have you driven anywhere in your car?"

I've been along MC, and I'm pretty sure D.

Not to mention H and V roads.

I don't believe I've ever travelled on a signed C-road, but as others have pointed out, I have definitely travelled on C roads, as well as U roads and various other kinds of roads.

Oh come on Owen, I'm sure you must have been driven along this road at least once in your life, and as mentioned on CBRD it used to be signed as the C1!

If that's the case then I've been driven down the C1 in it's entirety. Also, the Q road I mentioned happens to be the Q8 which is the road between Strathkinness (possibly St. Andrews) and Dairsie Bridge (possibly the A91 to the west of Dairsie). The C45 is the Pitscottie to Dairsie road, therefore the C45 has both a TOTSO and a multiplex on it, which I find quite amusing.

Signed as C? No. (sort of) signed as U, yes, travelled but only on a bike, it not being passable in an ordinary car.

I have indeed, but I don't ever recall seeing it signed as C1 myself. I'd forgotten it was mentioned on CBRD!

I live on a C road (can't remember the number but I have a notice somewhere from Ashford BC that mentions it as noted here). It's physically impossible for me to go anywhere (except maybe over an eight foot fence and trespass on private property) without going on one.

Maybe they live a sheltered existence in a place where they are D roads, or U roads, or MC roads. Or maybe they live in Ireland, where there's L roads.

Certainly there's no C roads for some distance around my house as they are MC roads (and even that network, from what I can make out, is sparser than I thought it would be), with a second tier underneath of U roads.

Ritchie

You could always look it up in the Kent County Council Highways Gazetteer (the link displays/downloads a 2.4MB pdf file) - a regularly updated document that lists every publicly and privately maintainable road in Kent. The gazetteer is updated by the county council and lists the roads alphabetically by name, provides its number (be it, A, B, C, or even U), and the exact length in metres.

Papsie, you're in Hertfordshire if I recall correctly?

Look up some roads near you in the Hertfordshire gazzetteer - you won't have to search for too long before you find some C roads. When you get a result, look for the Section ID. If the reference starts with a C then it is a C road - for instance C147 is Digswell Road in Welwyn Garden City.

You can also search by road number. I thought it might be interesting to find Hertfordshire's C1 but it came up with a huge list of entries as the search seems to pick up all C1x and C1xx as well.

Cheers,

Simon

Would the C roads be those country lanes, 6 feet wide, hedges on both sides and horse/cow droppings all over the bitumen?

Yes, I remember those. May be C roads, means CART ROADS.

I will be heading over to Devon when I arrive by ship at Southampton on 27 April, no doubt will pass through a C road or two in an effort to find a Cider Factory. :drink:
