Can someone shed any light on why there seem to be loads of signs pointing the way to Cardiff Airport all along the eastbound M4? Also, why do they start all the way back at Pont Abraham here:

Do some have the old blue borders for local destinations or did I make that up?

Yes they do. I just can't see why you need a metric tonne of them all along the M4, especially from 50 miles out...

Actually, given the size and construction (and hence weight) of them all, that'll be siginificantly *more* than a metric tonne of them! :P

The best one is at Earlswood (j42), where the local bordered sign is more visible than the two "M4" plates beneath it.
