In terms of having travelled over them, I've done all of them except Spaghetti Junction - being based in the South West for almost all of my driving years, I've never travelled on any of the M6 between the M5 and M42, the same reason I've never done the M6 Toll - it's just not a useful road for getting to or from SW England.

As a driver, I'm also missing M25/M23 (I've never driven any part of the M23 or the M25 between the M26 and M3), Gretna Green (well I have, but only when it was the A74) and the Hammersmith flyover (been over it on the coach several times, not sure about in a car).

The extremes of my mainland UK driving are Mevagissey, Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch, Fort William, John O'Groats and Deal (I've just realised I've driven to both Deal and Dover but a few years apart and never between them!). I've been further afield than this, but only as a passenger.

The one piece of road I regret having never driven is the now demolished "temporary" flyover in Bristol, although there was only about 5 months between me passing my test and it being torn down.

No. It's impossible to tell what percentage of respondents voted for any given option, since not all respondents placed an equal number of votes.

A pretty useless poll, then, for answering the question " Is There A Road Where All Sabristi Have Travelled Along?" :-(

Not entirely: in the context of earlier posts about the M62, we now know the answer is "no". ;)

Out of the list in the poll, I've driven the Almondsbury Interchange, Scotch Corner, Gretna Green, M62, M4 Severn Bridge, M40/A34 J9, M25/M23 J7.

Maybe we should add a few options such as M90 J10, M74 J4 (M73), M8 J1 (A720), M56 J15/M53 J11, A55 J19, M6 J8 (M5), A1(M) J65 (A194(M) to make it a bit more geographically diverse. ;)

I started writing down a list of my own "extremes" in Britain, then decided it might just be easier to make a map. It's not necessarily complete or entirely accurate, but I think it covers most of the places I've driven in the UK. Still a few gaps I need/want to fill, but it's difficult to do long journeys now with a little one in tow, alas. In total, I've driven around 42,000 miles in the UK since I passed my test in 2007. Outside Britain, my extremes would be California and New Zealand!

I too was inspired by Owen to create a map of where I've driven. It's not especially accurate everywhere as it's based on memory and my knowledge of things like Scottish geography isn't as good as it ought to be!

Owen, I find it funny to think that you haven't driven the A9 or A99 north of Inverness. I'm sure that when it comes to getting to Orkney the Aberdeen ferry is better but it still looks peculiar when presented like that.

I have been driven along it, many times, I just haven't driven it myself. We moved away from Orkney in 2005, and I haven't yet been back (although I do want to go back some day). I only passed my test when I was at St Andrews, although I did have some lessons in Orkney in 2005, hence the scribbles up there!

Using just roads where I have personally been in the driving seat, I can come up with at least this....

As for gaps, some of the A1 I have only done with Chris driving, I have only done the A66 in Haydn's passenger seat, and I wasn't at the wheel for the M8 or M90 (but was for the drive up and / or back). Only time I was driving in Ireland was last October from Rosslare to Kinsale in Cork, and back (using a different route).

I have cheated a bit here. As I mentioned upthread, I really have no idea which roads I have driven, and which my brother has driven when we've been on holiday. However, for all of the roads I've forgotten, there's probably some he drove shown, so here we go:

I can't believe I'm the most travelled Sabre Member...
The loose tail across Colchester is where my car broke down. :(

What are people using as the starting template for these maps?

Edit: and that's post number 17000

What does travelling along an interchange imply? Does it mean just going straight through it using a road which does interact with it, but without actually using the interchange, or does it only mean using it as an interchange to change roads?

Done them all except the M62; having always lived in the East of England it's sort of pointing the wrong way to have ever been of use to me! If they moved it to a NW/SE axis it would be more useful ;)

Can you explain a bit more - I'd like to do one.

The original survey would have been better asking who hasn't used each road - if there are any no-one has ticked, then everyone who has responded has used it!

Oh, I just pasted it into some kind of imaging editing software (Paint would do the job) and crudely added red lines.

I too just did a screenshot of Google Maps, attached is the basemap I used. Just save it to your computer and open it in your preferred drawing program.

I used GIMP (stroked paths) rather than a paint program, but that would work just as well.
