PM sent, the tree has not changed at all in Google Streetview if I have it correct.

Jonathon has the correct answer. I'm amazed the tree is the same after 80 years. I assume you went as far back as possible on the old road which shows the tree with fewer leaves.

Is it the A4041 near Kingstanding?

If so, this is my photo from the oxbow, looking in the opposite direction. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/27931

It is indeed the A4041 where the M6 passes over it.

Here's the same view on GSV. As Jonathon mentioned the tree is unchanged from 80 years ago.

Looking at the original picture the stone wall makes it look somewhere in Peak District rather than the Midlands.

Next one.....

I'm looking for the road number only unless someone knows exactly where it is.

I would hope that this road's unclassified by now! :P

The scenery looks Scottish to me, so as a starting guess I'll have a punt at the A87.

It certainly looks familiar. Was it taken last October? No, it's the wrong sort of trees for the A93.
I can't think of any abandoned bits of the A82, A83, A85 or A87 to still have road markings so clearly.

I'm going for somewhere further south - A76?

Any parts of the A87 (or what is now the A87) that have been re-aligned have been replacing single track roads.

I don't recognise the exact piece of road, but it looks vaguely like parts of the former A9/B817 in Easter Ross.

All the answers given are miles out apart from Rob's last answer :)

I was specifically thinking of the new bit south of Sanquhar, but a quick check on Google now reveals that there are no bends like that.
I can't imagine it's the old A74, so are we looking at ex A77 or ex A75, both of which have had upgrades in the last 20 years.

None of those are exactly in the right area.

I'm thinking it is an A road in the Scottish Borders region, ie somewhere East of the A74(M).
The A7, A703 etc have bypassed bits in similar looking surroundings.

One of the roads Glen mentioned is the correct answer.

Somewhere between Hawick and Selkirk on the A7?

Yes, and the road markings are clearly visible on Google Earth.
