OK, never done one of these before, but here goes, could be difficult, if so I'll add some clues after a couple of days.

Here it is:

Image

As it's been shamelessly nicked from Google maps, it can be said I've never been here, but I would like to!

If it's in North America the orange diamond is a construction sign as normal ones are yellow.

I've no idea as to the location other than to say that it looks dry, possibly somewhere in Utah?

It's certainly a temporary sign. You're half right about it being dry, at least it is in summer..

OK, a small clue - it's been on TV, but you wouldn't have seen it like this...

Ah... now you're warmer in the fact that it isn't one of the contiguous (sp) states - but try the other one!

They've obviously been along there again as the barrier has been repaired.

Since you'd said it was Alaska (or at least implied) it was going to be the Dalton Highway and therefore probably the Atigun Pass. When I travelled up the Dalton Highway it was a lot more snow covered / icy than these pictures (no, I wasn't on Ice Road Truckers, but it was mid June - the weirdest holiday in that I spent 3 weeks with very very limited night-time!)

Yep, it's the Atigun Pass - I thought it may confise some people as it hasn't got snow and ice on it!

I'm surprised that there was snow on it when you drove in June (jealous! :) ), I've been told that driving it as a gravel road involves heavy duty suspension/spine owing to the potholes left by the melting ice.

New photo coming up shortly...

Hmmm ... yellow streetlights ...

It's a country lane. The houses look like someone has edited them poorly.

Is it in Scotland?

There wasn't snow on the road, but still a lot on the surrounding hills. It wouldn't have lasted much longer as the days were getting warm - it was a positively balmy 20C IIRC in Coldfoot and not much colder in Deadhorse which lead to the really weird bodily sensation of standing on tundra feeling the cold around your feet and legs but wanting to wear a t-shirt because the sun was beating down on the top half :D

Something about it just screams Orkney to me. I'm certain its an Island, if not on Orkney, but can't be any more precise off the top of my head.

Some warm answers coming in here... I'll say no more for a little while, I want to see where it's heading...

I know it's wrong, but I'm going to say it anyway:
B9057 heading north to Evie, looking across the Eynhallow sound at Rousay.

Reminds me of the Top Gear challenge where they raced a letter from the Scillys to the Orkneys, but my knowledge of the Orkneys stops at Scrabster :D

I'm taking that to mean that Orkney is right.
The island or headland? on the horizon is flattish which rules out Hoy (and realistically Rousay too!), the streetlights suggest somewhere reasonably villagey, the road is S1 which rules out most of the A routes and runs roughly perpendicular to the coast. There appears to be another parallel road to the right and theres a (former) chapel on the right ahead. Unfortunately Google Earth doesn't have very good coverage of the Mainland or southern Isles of Orkney, but I can't spot anything on the northern isles that looks right. Finally, it looks very familiar and I only visited Rousay and the Mainland -> South Ronaldsay. :?
