I wonder if anyone can identify the location of these two photographs - I don't know myself!

Picture 1

Picture 2

I've no idea and there's every chance the roads have been improved since the pictures were taken.

Maybe Rileyrob will know?

I sent him a link to another of Ballachulish also some good ones in Glencoe.

Should hope the road has improved but not so sure in some areas

The labelling of the images is very poor so not convinced it is Skye as would not fit with it being part of the Six Day Trials unless they used very different routes then.

Lots of images of vehicles including a Mack snow blower and large snow plough (probably Mack).

Indeed I do! The first one is the Bealach na Ba on Applecross, here. Oh, and the second is also the Bealach na Ba, just a little higher up!

The Glencoe Photos are here if anyone else is interested. This one is taken from about here and gives the impression that the road has been widened since originally built in 1930/1. However, I think that it is just nature reclaiming the gulley alongside the road!

The road here by the ferry slip, now the A828, has certainly been widened though. However, apart from the trees growing, it is clearly the same beautiful viewpoint!

I wondered about the Bealach na Ba but don't know the area well enough.

This must be top of Glen Orchy between Tyndrum and Bridge of Orchy.

Coming to think of it now that Rob mentioned Bealach na Ba I should have recognised it but the stone wall threw me.

The Kyle one is lower down the Bealach na Ba again.
I think the sign on the A9 one says Slochd Summit.
The Kingshouse one is a mystery. The mountain looks like either Beinn Achaladair near Bridge of Orchy, or Beinn a Chrulaiste near Kingshouse, but with so much cloud it's difficult to tell. The only feature of the road to give a clue is the bridge, which I thought to start with might be the one over the Coupall on the Glen Etive Road, but it isn't. The Bridge has a curved parapet when I think all of Telford's bridges on the old Rannoch Moor road have straight parapets, so I shall have to GSV a bit more...

I thought it looked a bit like the Bealach na Ba images.

That Kingshouse one could be here. The junction has moved, the bridge has been replaced, and the GSV car didn't quite get as close, but some of the scars on the hillside look similar.
The biggest problem is that the old photo doesn't show the road turning to the left at the end of the straight as we can see on GSV. :?

This looks like an old image of one the A55 tunnels.
