Where is Malcolm McDowell riding on his stolen motorbike?

1:31-1:54 - dual carriageway
1:54-2:38 - single carriageway road(s)
2:38-2:50 - motorway junction
2:50-3:05 - single carriageway A-road pulling into transport cafe

Various buildings and signs flash past in the background to give you clues.

I know the location last two scenes two but the first two remain a mystery - any suggestions much appreciated.

The signage seems to suggest its round about here.

Good suggestion but I'm thinking that it is not Junction 5 of the M5. Even allowing for the junction having been remodelled at some point in the past and the slip road that Malcolm rides down changing from two-way to one-way. Could the two destinations on the blue motorway sign have been reached by driving that way? One is north and the other is south.

The M5/A44 junction used to be a single-carriageway slip road affair as well before it was rebuilt.

I'm pretty sure it's M50 J1 (coming off the eastbound carriageway and then heading south on the A38): there's still the same fence around it and the footpath on the E side that you can see in the video. At the time of filming, it would have been reasonable for it to be signposted M5 Birmingham and Worcester, given the M5 hadn't opened south of Strensham.

I had a look at the dual carriageway bit as well, in particular the sign. These are my best guesses for what it says, assuming it's roughly in that area.

Top location: probably 8-9 letters, with a short (no more than 2-digit) road number in brackets. I wondered about Gloucester (A40) given the other two. Second one is quite a bit longer, starts with a C, road number not in brackets. Could be Cirencester or Cheltenham. Road off to the side I think might be Ludlow, again road number in brackets, could be (A49).

I don't think all of these can be right, but might be of use for someone who knows the area. (But Wikipedia knows the location of the fourth clip and the garage, and both are at least 50 miles away from M50J1, so no guarantee they're in that area at all.)

Well, the answer to the above "If..." question can be found here:

https://sites.google.com/site/glouceste ... -1/if-1968

With then and now photos.

The actual bike shop featured in the movie is now a Wetherspoons in Wimbledon town centre on Gladstone Road, just off The Broadway.
The last photo featured is the A5 in Dunstable

What was formerly the trunk road sign in the film is here. Ledbury not Ludlow.

So the dual carriageway was the A38 then.
Well done everyone!
