When designers knew how to use things that weren't rulers or LEDs...

The first picture shows a crescent bracket which is an extremely rare sight these days. I last saw one in 2001 on a side road in Slough.

Interesting piece of pipe work between the lantern and the bracket! I assume it's a later addition with the SOX lantern to allow it to fit in the crescent properly.

One of the best places to see old street lighting is Silloth or Cleator Moor in Cumbria, nearly all the streets have sixties and seventies street lighting. Also check out Cramlington in Northumberland, it's a paradise for lovers of seventies street lighting. I can think either these lights have proven to be durable and effective or the local authorities can't afford to replace them.
