The completion of the new A354 Relief Road into Weymouth has lead to some numbering changes.

* A354 now bypasses Broadwey
* A353 diverted west of Preston via Littlemoor Road to meet the new relief road. (Littlemoor Road is currently being reconstucted and realigned)
* B3155 replaces old A353 south of Preston through to Weymouth town centre. (B3155 is a recycled number that was originally in the Weymouth area.)

I'm not sure what has happened with the B3159 and whether it has been extended along the old A354 through Broadwey. I wouldn't be surprised if it has been declassified throughout to encourage through traffic to use the A354/A35. (This is pure conjecture.)

I know I should really know... but I don't! How do I update the Wiki??

The B3154 will be extended through Broadwey, as mentioned here:- http://www.weymouthreliefroad.wordpress.com

Lots of other info and comments as well.

The .pdf seems to have a lot of changes in the Wyke Regis/Charlestown area as well, compared to OS mapping of the area.

B3153, B3154 and B3158 don't appear on any map I looked at last night in those places - more edits to the area it seems!

I must say that I like their OS MOT mapping colour scheme, with B roads in green.

Well, the B3153 will have been on your map! It's the road from Langport to Castle Cary in Somerset.

I do wonder of the Weymouth versions of the B3153 and B3154 are really necessary anyway. The classified road network in the area already seems to be quite adaquate without them.

Hence the 'in those places'.

Anyway, the wiki is updated.

I'm not sure that the three I've listed are at all necessary - the B3158 as well.

Interesting that the B3159 goes along the old A354 all the way to Weymouth town centre, reclassifying the bit bypassed when the road along the railway to Portland was built.

I don't get why the B3153 number has been used when it is already active in Somerset. If the B3160 was currently in use elsewhere in Dorset, I could understand, but according to the Wiki it is a defunct number, now a spur of the B3157 from Bridport to West Bay.
Then again, maybe DCC still use the original (pre-1935) B3160 number to differentiate the spur from the mainline?

i agree, dont see the point of the new road numbers. Only roads that needed reclassifying are the old A354 and old A353. Everything else was fine as it was, no need to tinker with it IMO. As it has turned out these reclassifications will create some pathetic b roads which wont mean anything ot users on the ground as they probably wont be numbered on the roadsigns anyway! I think in an urban/suburban environment, unclassified c roads work perfectly well as routes without numbers. people know them by street names not numbers.

I need to correct myself. The new numbers do now appear on road signs, primarily as route confirmation after junctions. At least the B3155 and the extension to the B3159 do, not sure about the others. The current B3156 predates the new A354, but not sure how recently it was resigned as such. They seem to have been busy redoing the signs to reinforce the changes, although they seem to have missed one A353 sign on Preston Beach Road (now B3155)!

The history of the B315x numbers/roads in Weymouth is pretty complex. I can recall at least 2 previous major changes aside from the most recent ones and i know there are others dating back to the original 1922 lists. Needs looking at and properly recording i guess.

I sorted out the wiki with the new numbers a while back.

Would be great to have detail added to the wiki.

We have pages on B3153 (Weymouth), B3154, B3154 (Portland), B3155, B3155 (Wyke Regis - Charlestown), B3156, B3157, B3158, B3158 (Weymouth Station) and B3159, and while some have a decent amount of history, many are stubs.
