Noticed yesterday that the A6123 in Rotherham has been extended at its western end, taking the route of the former B6375 and B6089 to form a loop to the north of the town.

How long until they start calling this the ring road....?

This must have been done fairly recently as I'm often in Rotherham and haven't noticed anything. The queues to get from the St Anns Roundabout up the A633 towards Parkgate are often bad; mainly due to the enormous retail park there. This was seemingly built with little thought as to how the huge volumes of traffic it would generate would access it!

Perhaps they are trying to spread this traffic around by sending through traffic on this new alignment of the A6123 from the College Road Roundabout to the Parkgate Roundabout.

I don't think its marked at the A630/A629 roundabout. But when you get onto what was the B6089 from there it is. Only noticed it this weekend when I took the little'un out.

Yes was in Rotherham at lunchtime today and it's definitely not been signed from College Road/B&Q r'bout (A629/A630) as yet. My tolerance of Rotherham Town Centre had already lapsed at this point so couldn't be bothered to trek up to Parkgate. As I'm sure you'll have already seen, the current OS mapping on Multimap has been updated.

Seems very plausible to use this as the signed route to Rawmarsh/Wath from the M1/Meadowhall to relieve the A633 in the vicinity of Parkgate Retail World. However, most locals more than likely already know the back roads through Greasbrough.

I've found that a Thrybergh - Parkgate journey is quicker via A630 / A633 in BOTH directions than it is queueing on the A6123 past the steel works. When Retail World is busy the route past the steelworks queues between the roundabouts for its entire length. Don't forget that the A6123 / A630 roundabout is bad too - 2.5-3 lanes across, no lane markings, pedestrian crossings on 3 sides at the exits.......

It seems the A6123 flicks between old and newly-extended versions depending on which zoom level and mapping source you look at...

One thing's for sure: Parkgate's chocka at weekends.

Bloody ASDA roundabout is a nightmare from all directions, mainly caused by traffic to/from ASDA.

Thrybergh - A633 north probably best going through Hooton Roberts and Kilnhurst aren't you? :?

Wouldn't know. I always use the A630 from Sheffield. ;)
