It's a shame they demoted this road.

Something of a high spot on this road is the so-called "chain bridge" (actually an arch suspension type) over the river Usk at a place called Kemeys Commander. The bridge may best be admired from the adjacent and appropriately named Chain Bridge Inn.

According to an old OS map, the number A471 only applied from Usk to the junction with the old A40 at Llanfihangel Gobion. The new number B4598 has been applied both to the old A471 and to the old A40 west of LlG to Abergavenny.
