Folks,
Am currently on hols in Vietnam, so I snapped a couple of pics of the roads (see the SE Asia gallery).
There are some interesting touches from France still around (eg red-topped km posts on the main highways), but in general standards are developing world-grim. All hire cars here come with drivers, and I can see why! Labour is dirt-cheap, and the standard of driving is universally appalling. We've only been here two days and have already narrowly escaped death twice.
Fun!

Re: Vietnam
I'm planning on going to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos in September/October. Essentially, I'm planning on doing a circular trip of Saigon - Hue - Haiphong - Hanoi - Vientiane - Angkor - Phnom Penh - Saigon on a motorbike. Is that feasible? Will I need to transit Thailand to get from Vientiane to Angkor, or can I follow the Mekong route via Pakxé? Any hints or warnings on things to look out for or to avoid?
