Just watched a short video about an idyllic village in Holland, where there are no road, just canals.

Sounds great. So I looked it up on Google Maps

Giethoorn, Netherlands - Seems that its not quite so cut off from the outside word of roads, and cars and stuff.

You can bring your car right up to the canal, but as the video shows, it is a series of canals. My uncle took me on a visit there a few years ago.

I saw the same piece on the BBC website. It reminded me of an area in northern France near Saint-Omer where the locals similarly get about in boats, though there are limited roads in some places.
