Eastbound Ville Marie Tunnel remains closed

MONTREAL – Part of the eastbound Ville Marie Expressway’s tunnel – a crucial downtown artery – remained closed Friday morning as Transport Quebec removes water from underground retention basins and fixes broken pumps.

There are plans to send scuba divers into the basins to investigate. The basins overflowed after pumps failed in the wake of Tuesday’s heavy rains.

The tunnel closing caused traffic jams during Thursday's morning and afternoon rush hours.
