To be fair they are generally in fantastic condition!
How strange! It's like a street from my childhood. No casual replacements either, they're remarkably intact.

There's more vintage stuff on some of the side streets leading off it. What a find!

Edit: tell a lie, there are some casual replacements, though a lot of those are orange sodium lights too - you have to follow the road quite a way to find the first one, though. Lots more on side roads - it's almost like the whole estate was overlooked, except that one or two streets do have newer LED lights on metal columns.

Here's one from the grounds of Hertford County Hall. I think the head is a modern replacement as there are similar on modern metal posts nearby.

It's good to see some original lamposts from when the estate was built, the orange glow at night must be rare these days

Yes , when I moved into this road in 2016 the road it still had sodium lights but they have all been switched out for LED's now.

Previously there had been concrete lamp posts so all that was replaced were the head units. The white light confused the birds for a while but they seem to have adapted, the latest plan is to turn them off between midnight and 5 AM. It would be nice to see the stars again.

Since Blackburn switched to cut-off LED the night skies have been better - as a kid all I ever saw was an orange haze over the town from the SOX lanterns. I had a SOX lantern outside my house for the first ten years of my life, before the column was swapped out for a SON one. I think this is partly why I don't like sleeping in total darkness.

This column in Carrickfergus seems to have been forgotten about and left in place whilst all others have been replaced.

A nice run of curved-top Stantons - bar one or two modern replacements - in New Brighton:

The first digits of the lamps' numbers are in the original screw-in plastic but the second digit, which must have changed over the years, is painted:

Wow, those are ancient! I remember them being quite rare when I was a kid but to see a street of them now is extremely rare. Thanks for posting!

They were extremely common in Sandwell until they met their demise :@

I'm pleased that you like them, Chris. It was just chance that I saw them and there were quite a few behind where I was standing for the first photo.

What age are they, do you reckon? 1950's?

Yes, 50s is most likely - could even be late 40s.

The 'fins' on these are 50s onwards I think, as they're the modified 6B. The 40s 6B had an 'open fin':

Tyneside used to be like this as most of the lighting was SOX outside of the main town and city centre streets. I can remember being near Belsay in 1980 and in the distance on a clear night, you could see the SOX lighting on the housing estates on the northen edge of Newcastle.

Missing its lantern, this one is situated at what I believe was the Inverness end of the old Kessock Ferry:

Here's one - now fitted with a generic modern floodlight - in a London bus garage, which seems to be a good place to find them hiding!

This one was still here last time I passed it used to have a miniature version where the modern one is now though it was replaced long ago. My guess is the columns on the main road had the same brackets before been sleeved but that one somehow survived possibly due to access. But still plenty of concrete left in Barnsley.

These CU columns survive around Ramsgate Bandstand, sadly the brackets are long gone.

This one still survives on land which is currently being redeveloped so may not be there much longer
