Creating road signs for projects
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knows a way that I could create realistic(ish) road signs for use in a video game that I'm making? I've seen about SignPlot and KeySign - but of course, as they are professional software, they cost loads. So, if anyone can give me pointers for either a website, piece of software or a way to quickly do it in inkscape, that would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Inkscape is really good. I use it for creating a number of signs, some examples pictured. Helpfully, I've uploaded the character sets on Wikimedia Commons for use.

Other symbols and signs are available on there to use, and you can create your own using working drawings.

KeySign and SignPlot still require a lot of manual effort to do correctly, you will generally get the same results using vector graphics packages as you would from KeySign - in fact the image outputs will be neater as KeySign is frankly awful at exporting to .png or .pdf.

Honestly, the least manual option would probably be paying someone with experience designing signage, whether professionally or as a hobby, to make the signage one wants for their video game.Bryn666 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 02:03 KeySign and SignPlot still require a lot of manual effort to do correctly, you will generally get the same results using vector graphics packages as you would from KeySign - in fact the image outputs will be neater as KeySign is frankly awful at exporting to .png or .pdf.
Probably busy documenting grade crossings in the southeastern United States.

I have used QCAD Community Edition (if you use the official binaries, remove the trial Professional addon after installing). The benefit over vector-graphics apps is that one can print a drawing with just outlines, just like those that would be sent to the sign manufacturers. The downside is that drawing symbols and moving objects around is slow and tedious.
The PDF output is excellent though.
