Re: Botched Roadsigns
Trumpet - Hope under Dinmore section of A417 have big signage problem. Signs at crossing with A419 and A4172 show A417 as primary except these ones:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/a6dHXAUFhpgyi8Dz8
https://maps.app.goo.gl/LeeFNkgUbUdxbrid8
After 4.5 miles we reach junction with A4103. Signs at A4103 side show A417 as you guess it as primary! At junction itself signs show A417 as non-primary, howewer next to junction you can see very old 1970s A417 RCS showing road as a primary
https://maps.app.goo.gl/mpVVZdE3AYt168cx6
After short while we reach roundabout with A465. This time signs from A417 side are green:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/PSJX6EgLWpdbauTM8
https://maps.app.goo.gl/11m4wXAQRRbN6Lsf9
Same thing is happening on A465 side:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/Hgvc4GQbeDYUzs5K8
https://maps.app.goo.gl/bYRYrJTXreNZKvDb7
At another junction this time with local road things are getting interesting. According to Google Maps, in january 2009 signs here are green:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/VyxfeuANUTuGAVq69
Howewer later that year they were changed to non-primary ones:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZWM1ujpBpcErGsgA7
In yet another junction with local road to Pencombe A417 is shown as primary:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/YjkuewtuZQqBcEx7A
Same here:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/im7NTHTc498WCfEU8
https://maps.app.goo.gl/eymTsg5omhBF8kby9
https://maps.app.goo.gl/AMoQaZwaCTZAYxAf7
Finally we are reaching terminus of disputed primary A417 in Hope under Dinmore where signs again are showing A417 as primary:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/MNsgZwTNnbFBZ9cQA
https://maps.app.goo.gl/Afhuruu252E64qiD7
https://maps.app.goo.gl/VNxqoXZTmMBPeko96
Problem is growing because SABRE wiki says that A417 in that section is non-primary.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Was the A417 primary in the past and these signs are a relic.
How would you like your grade separations, Sir?

The right hand lorry symbol here doesn't look quite right.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
It's missing the weight, which makes it look weird.

Scottish water attempting to revive the Auld Alliance by using a French? two-way traffic sign.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Presumably that would indicate all goods vehicles prohibited regardless of weight (so no vans allowed). But they're both wrong, as they both omit the "except for loading", which is rather an important distinction if you have a delivery to make.

Reminds me of this one I found a few years ago over in Hartselle, AL, here in the US:swissferry wrote: ↑Fri Apr 19, 2024 17:07 Scottish water attempting to revive the Auld Alliance by using a French? two-way traffic sign.

As a side note, on the other side of the post was certainly an... attempt... at a "Do Not Enter" sign:

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Normally I'd hold temporary signage at roadworks at a much lower standard than that of permanent ones, but overall the standard of signage at the Stockbury junction works at M2 j5 ]is very poor[/url]. A lot of it is in the wrong font (including the speed limit signs). I've never seen a yellow chopsticks sign before either. This direction sign luckily is a duplicate. Why have A249N but not A249S?
The original signage at this junction was quite unusual with the signs and markings having "The coast" rather than Margate for some reason like all other junctions. Some of the markings also had "SHEP" for Sheppey instead of Sheerness like the signs have.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Here's one near me that I hadn't noticed before. If you want to find the "local services" they're on the same exit as the "town centre", but one sign thinks that is straight on and the other thinks it's to the right. The "services" sign suggests it's further to the right than the rightmost arm on the main sign.
Elsewhere, since when does a simple direction sign require the borough council logo and the word "and"?

Ye gods, that's atrocious! Falls into the trap of thinking all signs at roadworks sites have to be yellow. What a waste of metal.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
As alluded to in another thread, I've not used intermediate A303 junctions much down the years, other than Micheldever. But looking at Streetview and the A338, firstly I'm not sure the sign in question is best stuck in a bush in the summer, but then looking more closely; why has it got a stub arm for the A338 southbound? The sign from the the opposite direction on the B3084 has a stub for straight on and left. This could be a secondary ADS as there are blank poles further back. I can't see such poles from the A303 sliproad, going back though the years on Streetview.
"Hang on then." I thought. "Perhaps they just don't want you going this way?" But if that is the case, why is the route to Salisbury via this route Primary and why is it signed to there from the A303? So perhaps either botched or otherwise missing a stolen/knocked down companion which was never replaced? A hangover from when this part of the sliproad was the single carriageway A303? But then that would be signed if left from the past.

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Something not right here. The road you are turning onto is the A6, and the A6 doesn't go to Northampton.
I would have thought it should be:
Northampton
A6 (A428)

Re: Botched Roadsigns
It's just efficient with the space. It's got the correct x-height, but the short words make it look tiny.the cheesecake man wrote: ↑Mon Apr 22, 2024 17:47 Is it me or is this motorway exit sign smaller than normal?

Or even Northampton straight on and use the M1.

It's certainly busy! I think they are only missing the MOD red signs from the colour palette although that's not motorway blue its Devon's blue.

3 roadsigns in 1. Does the job I guess, but I've never encountered that before

Following on from the Oxhampton area
Was there ever anything down this street other than a Superstore?

Re: Botched Roadsigns
Is the M4 here (and elsewhere) not only not a motorway but not even primary?
I saw three of these today but never twigged the wrong colour before.
