Hello Sabristi

This is my very first WAI here and I was just wondering if any of you know where I took this holiday snap. I can't directly upload it here because whenever I do it's oversized. I don't know what road I'm really on (could be unclassified) but if you tell me what town I'm in I'll accept.

Note: For some reason I'm very prolific tonight.

It looks like somewhere I've been on my Scottish travels.
Glenrothes?

In Markinch, to be specific.

The street name helped, of course - there aren't many "Balgonie Roads" about :P

One of the first that I've ever known and too late to answer :( .

I've stood on that corner a few times waiting for a lift to Glenrothes after getting the train to Markinch.

12 minutes later and Peter gets it right. It is indeed Markinch, I was standing on the station bridge and like cb_a1 said I was waiting for a relative to pick me up as well.

I've also captured some piccies of other places as well on my trip and I may upload in the near future so watch this space.

Yep. Know that feeling too. I had the I-95 one in Miami as well but then saw it was answered.

As soon as I saw it I knew where it was having been up to Balgonie Castle a few times when we were arranging our wedding (which eventually ended up in Buckingham as it was so much easier to arrange!)

But there must be something in the brain that makes certain things more memorable than others and instantly recallable. I remember whilst living in Belgium a flat mate flicking on the TV and there was this woman talking in foreign leant against a red railing with a vivid blue sky behind and a small slither of creamy brown ground below. I said to the others that this must be something about the Nazca lines as she's standing on the lookout tower just off the Pan-Am. It had been 3 years since I'd been there and apart from the colours of the ground and the railing there was nothing to go on.

The camera panned around and lo-and-behold it was.

So, guess I can't use the picture from the top of Balgonie Castle pointing towards the A911 as a WWI now!!

Hello again.
I've got another WAI here for you lot to crack. I am parellel to a major road but do you know where I'm actually standing?

I think you're approaching Tweedmouth looking across to Berwick?

You're very close, but I'm going to see if others would like to have a go at this as well, but I did say this line travels parellel to an A road.

Cove on the A1?

I know the line gets very close to the sea there...

I've almost let this thread go to waste so the award goes to DavidB. I was on a northbound GNER to Berwick so I would be close to Tweedmouth.

The line I was on, best known as the Flying Scotsman travels alongside the A1 all the way from outer Newcastle to Edinburgh so hence the road reference.

I thought the Flying Scotsman was the name of the train that ran along the ECML from London to Scotland...?

Yes it is, I just made an error by forgetting to add 'route' after Flying Scotsman. The line I was on is the route the Flying Scotsman takes from London to Edinburgh.

The tree gives the misleading impression that Berwick pier is very long - it's actually a dogleg with only the final bit truly in the sea.

Hello again, some suggestions from other Sabristi have made me want to put this up. Not really road related but how about putting a timescale on this one. One hour suit everyone?

I know where it is - but I'll PM Halstead. It does, of course, include one of this country's most impressive road features and one of its most famous roads, so certainly road related! The red roofs and the baroque church tower make it almost look French!

Edit: er, the location's mentioned in the thread just about the picture :?

Well yes Peter (and Truvelo) got it right. Strangely I took it last summer when I was randomly taking pictures of various landscapes on my train route.

Here's a photo I took last summer looking towards where the original was taken...

hehe! I was there in the summer!

the A1167 bridge over the Tweed!

with the Royal Border bridge behind (and a freight train going over by the look of it!)

As regards the earlier pic of the bridge, on the other side of the river is that little boathouse, and a path runs behind it and behind the bridge. The bridge is lit up at night and a picture from underneath the bridge illuminated at night would make a decent POTM!
