didn't the A1/M1 link road open in the 1990's??

also, does anyone have any maps of what the area was like beforehand, and how the M1 used to terminate? ie, did the M1 terminate on what is now the M621?

I presume from the next bit that you're talking about the new bit of the M1 past Garforth - this one needs a bit of care as the A14 (nee A604) was also billed as A1/M1 Link Road at around the same time.

Guessing that you are on about the M1 extension at Leeds, it opened in 1999. (Have a look at any Motorway Database page for opening dates.)

Before it opened the M1 went into central Leeds, terminating at what is now M621 J3. It didn't end on the M621 as such; there wasn't full access between the two motorways. They just both terminated at the same point and dumped all their traffic onto Dewsbury Road.
