I’ll tell you now that you’re spot on. The photo is taken from the entrance to the Tunnels Beaches. I think the angle of the picture does make the car park look smaller than it actually is.
Nice and easy - about a one minute walk from my house!
That’s two correct answers in a row from me
! I'm doing well!
I thought it looked very familiar, but the angle of the camera and lack of traffic threw me. I’m used to queuing at these traffic lights on Wilder Road on my way to and from our usual parking place on the Harbour car park. If I'm not queuing, I rarely manage more than 15-20mph!
I was actually going to say if I was right that you’d be within minutes of this picture. Pan the camera to the right a little and we’d probably see you
! I’ve never actually been up The Torrs before. It’s about the only small corner of Ilfracombe left I haven’t either driven around or walked around, ironically.
I hope Halstead has more pictures from North Devon - I’ll give some more answers! With it being practically my second home after close to 14 years worth of holidays down there at Croyde Bay (Moor Lane - you’ll know where
), as I said, I struggle to think of anywhere where I haven’t been down there. Maybe the odd remote country lane in Dartmoor perhaps or some small, remote village in the far east of the county maybe....
and if not we’d probably have seen each other at some point without realising it.
We almost did the year before last, if you remember! I told you of our usual walk around Ilfracombe on a particular morning, staying fairly close to the car park and we found out that whilst I was leaving, you were at the crazy golf (I think) which I’d just passed less than ten minutes earlier! We must have passed each other. Last year was a bit of a disaster - fairground on the car park, so Ilfracombe was sadly a ‘drive though’ on the way to Lynton & Lynmouth last year
. Hoping there isn't anything planned there during the week 13th - 20th September when I'm down again - otherwise it's going to be parking in a side street for me, or looking out for you!
That was an inspired guess given that I’ve never been to Ilfracombe
- but the architecture is very definitely “South-West coastal resort”.
It’s lovely down there Peter - it’s the reason why I keep on going back yearly (well almost - I’ve missed out two visits in those near 14 years!) and to the same place (even the same caravan on occasions, I’ll admit too
). This year we’re staying in the one next door to the one we had last year. As long as you avoid it at peak periods where it can get vastly overcrowded, I’ll happily recommend North Devon to anyone. I prefer the north of the county to the south.
It’s also very good from a roads point of view, particularly the A39 through Exmoor. I know David and I tend to disagree on this next one, but I thoroughly enjoy using the NDLR too (although yes, I managed to find heavy 40mph traffic heading east towards South Molton on our way home last year). Then you have the A3123, B3227, A386 and A377 which I’ve always fond of too.
