Looking at the A702 poll, what do you think of the A75?

I'm guessing you mean S2+1, or is there a reason for a central reservation?

Never seen any of it bar the sliproads off the M6 / A74(M). If I ever get the chance, I'll drag this poll up afterwards. :D

Some of the A75 is notorious for accidents and maybe worthy of a central reservation between a S2+1

In that case they should install some yellow vultures.

That road is nowhere in my tetritory so I have never been on it; been on it without realising.

It's not a road I'm familiar with but I voted dual carriageway, as it's an important link between the A74(M)/M6 and Stranraer for the ferry to Belfast. It's part of a Euroroute as well which in an ideal world would be completed with the A69 dualled from Newcastle to Carlisle though that isn't likely to happen in its entirety.

That section has already been upgraded to motorway (M6).

It should be D2 between Dumfries and Gretna, since this is the busiest section and one section where at times will be lucky to get above 35mph because trucks being forced to do 40mph by the D&G over zealous police force.

From Dumfries to Stranraer the road is generally fine, moves freely most of the time and is a pretty good quality road. The only bit thats a bit thats a bit twisty is the bit up at Kirkcowan but i see they are adding a new section of road up here.

I think it should be a motorway with two lanes each way and No speed cameras

I have only ever travelled on it between Gretna and Castle Douglas. I did notice that it is very busy until Dumfries but then it seemed to be OK and fairly well flowing, so I put that it needs more D2+1, as that would provide more overtaking oppurtunities. I'm not sure that it needs to be D2 throughout. Maybe Gretna to Dumfries should be D2, but beyond there I think D2+1 or even a wide S2 would be OK.

The A75 is a real hassle at rush hour and is nose-to-tail at half past four, Gretna to Dumfries should be dual carriageway definitely and maybe to Castle Douglas/Gatehouse of Flee.

There will be a new dual carriageway split at the low bridge

The Annan Bypass is extremely well aligned and I've cruised at 3-digit speeds in the early hours. During the day you're lucky to achieve half that and with police cracking down on lorries travelling at 56 on single carriageways most of them now stick to 40. Dualling the Annan Bypass is simply a matter of adding a second carriageway along the existing road.

As others have said, the section from Gretna to Dumfries needs dualling throughout. At the moment there's only two decent overtaking places. One is the short D2 to the east of Dumfries where everyone behind the leading vehicle pulls out to overtake meaning those at the back don't get a chance to pass the lead vehicle by the time the D2 ends. The other overtaking place is to the east of Carrutherstown. This is a wide S2 so there's room to overtaking when there's oncoming traffic. The weekend is a good time to see mass overtakes.

I would advise anyone who does overtake on the Collin dual carriageway to watch as there has been at least 5 accidents in the past few years. And watch for daft people who cross the hatchings! That happens a lot :driving:

If your gonna do that kinda speed on the 75, i'd buy myself a cb which does AM and leave it on channel 19 anywhere north of Tebay and you'll hear the chatter and know where the trafpol are on the A75.

They would bend you over if they caught you doing triple figures, prob arrest you for dangerous driving.

They sit down that road a lot, and on other farm tracks on the straight sections a lot.

http://maps.google.co.uk/?ie=UTF8&ll=55 ... 7,,0,19.11

and at this junction hiding behind the trees

http://maps.google.co.uk/?ie=UTF8&ll=54 ... 73,,0,6.01

They also are not adverse to sitting in a layby in front of a truck so are impossible to see in the middle of the night.

The A75 espec round about Annan and the ws2 section are very tempting to really nail it on espec after being on the M6 at high speeds.

Most nights they would be somewhere between Gretna and Dumfries, easier at weekends because i believe these days the trafpol have also got to deal with drunks (well in Ayr they do) so end up in Dumfries.

Yeah, I avoid speeding along that stretch too. OK, so at night you'll make good progress but during the day you just get stuck behind someone else.
There's always marked police cars hiding along there.

Yes, the scamera partnership in Dumfries and Galloway are a bit pernickety and will do you if you are doing 68 bang on or even 67.9.They also park on certain HGV 40 zones to catch lorries out

I was talking to a HGV driver from Dumfries during the week, he mentioned the dual carriageway sections of A75 have a 40 limit, is this true? I don't remember it being signed as such, but he said there have been driver done for doing 50 on DC's.

Personally I think the speed limit on good quality long distance roads in Scotland such as parts of the A75 A9 and A1 should be raised to 50 for lorries.

Yes, it is true. They are on things like the stretch after Cargenbridge and if you see one it is 50 in a dual carriageway. I also agree with you on the "50 on major routes for lorries rule"
