Make Template:Crossings of the River Trent and create it as a redirect page to the long named template? That would work and be easier!

Unfortunately, the navbox didn't like the redirects, so I've changed them all (I hope) manually to the correct template!

Yeah sorry, that was the problem I was having, I was going to wait until I had some free time to deal with it (scheduled for late 2015!). So thanks for sorting that! :)

Just a curiosity. My username is all lower case, but if you click on History for any article I've edited, or on Recent Changes, it appears with a capital W, and (therefore?) in red.

Yes, that's because usernames on the wiki software we use must start with a capital letter (amongst other restrictions that the forums don't have). So when you go to the wiki, it "fakes" your username to the closest valid one at the last minute.

In theory, this would allow somebody to register an account called, say, Wri_nkl_y, and then be able to edit the wiki looking like you did. In practice, somebody doing that would probably be noticed by the SMT before it got to that stage.

Your username appearing red is simply because you haven't created a talk page about yourself. Click on "My Talk" just below the main yellow menu at the top of the screen, and you'll be given the option to create one.

Username in red is not created a username.

I have the same capitalisation thing - all wiki pages start with a capital letter (and lowercase initial letters get treated as if they were capitial letters), and are case sensitive after that.

a user Si404 would be considered by the wiki to be the same as me, but sI404 or SI404 wouldn't.

Er, I hate to pull rank, but I wrote the code for this, and I am absolutely certain that :

* A "red" link simply means that that page (ie: User:x) does not exist. It tells you nothing about the existance of any user in the system.

* If you scan through the user list on the wiki, you'll see lots of users who have "red" links (ie: no talk page) but have still made edits.

* If you browse to the wiki and it realises you are logged onto the forums, it simply creates an account in the background automatically if one does not already exist (as would have happened when you changed your username from "sabristo simon" to "si404").

I meant user page. You said talk page, and I was aiming to correct that, but failed to write in a way that makes sense even to me reading it not long after!

Ah yes, I see what you're getting at now. Consider the rank unpulled.

The 403 error is back apparently, it then bizarrely re-directed me to the photo of the month page

Sorry, I know the idea of the wiki is to edit to remove errors, but i've noticed that the Pembrokeshire page has its trunk roads labelled as Transport Scotland roads, which is clearly an error. I'd change this myself but don't know how.

Is the gallery problem being attended to? The only way I can view pictures is to look for them through the Coppermine gallery.

As no-one else has tried to fix it I've moved the code around a bit to get it working, others are welcome to put it back in order if they want to.

(For those that care, the variables weren't loading when they were defined how they were: if you define them before calling them it would work. I've taken all the variables out for now.)

I've announced this on Committee, but I have redone the Gallery as a MediaWiki extension, so it now works, but also pulls out some of the nicer Coppermine features like paging and a bit less clutter. I was hoping to get done today or tomorrow - the main thing left is lists and the paging UI.

My browser has been slow all evening whilst on Wiki and now has collapsed completely.

Feels like Site 5

I've had a go at moving the gallery over to something that vaguely works. Unfortunately doing that makes all image pages (of which there are tens of thousands) stale, and the design of them at the moment unfortunately doesn't scale particularly well if they have to be regenerated. And I can see lots of bots thrashing away trying to request them all again. Patience.

When I was altering some of the route lists, I considered something - would it be possible to have the correct fonts used on the Wiki?

Extra nice would be the little black number box for the relevant junctions - is this beyond the capabilities of the Wiki?

Now we're well on the way to getting full 1922 mapping coverage of England & Wales, would it be possible to do something clever with the routeboxes so that you can select an area and a layer from SABRE Maps to display - similar to the OS map display currently available for places and junctions?

It will help on storage space as well as for illustrating articles and would be useful on every article.
