The Photo of the Month competition for November 2010 is now open. The winning photo, decided by a vote, will be featured on the front page of the SABRE website and (in edited form) in the banner at the top of every webpage.

Your nomination must be entirely your own work, i.e. you must have photographed it yourself, and carried out any subsequent edits. Also, no more than one entry per person, and please avoid submitting previous winning photos.

If you think another SABRE member's photograph deserves to be included, you could consider sending him/her a message of encouragement to enter the competition.

Photos taken by anyone outside SABRE are not allowed in the competition - but instead, feel free to post links to your favourite photos in the forums, for everyone's enjoyment.

To enter a photo, please upload it using this form, making sure that the "Photo of the Month November 2010" category remains ticked in the lower part of the form (under "Other", in the right-hand column).

After uploading, please check that your photo appears in the Photo of the Month November 2010 gallery, and please ask for help if you have any problems.

If you wish to nominate one of your photos that already exists in the Wiki, and you are not sure how to add it to the current Photo of the Month nominations, please ask for help in this thread. State which photo you want to nominate, and I will add it to the nominations gallery.

Submissions will close on Saturday 23 October, around 10:00pm.

Good luck! :)

I've put one through from my holiday blog. A long shot but maybe of interest.

Once again I have managed to upload a photo for the PoTM but utterly fail to get it to go into the PoTM gallery  . And, YES, I did make sure the correct gallery was ticked in the list when I uploaded it so I'm really not sure where I am going wrong here.

The file name is "M23 Hooley - PoTM Nov 10.JPG"

Thanks in advance if someone technically minded can put my error right.

Tony

Now fixed, Tony (though I'm still as clueless as you as to what's going wrong).

I have given this a go. Might have missed the mark by a million miles, and I've certainly made a mess of the file name, but hey, nothing ventured nothing gained...

It's a very good well-composed picture and deserves success.

There are a lot of photos in there that I really like so it's going to be tough choosing only one when the time comes.

I've submitted a foreign one again knowing that it won't win. It's one of the best locations I've photographed recently. A shame we don't have many big five level GSJ's over here.

It's a nice shot. Is that the junction near Albuquerque Sunport? I think I might have passed it on the shuttle bus to Santa Fe in February last year.

In semi-related news, I'll be moving to Boulder, Colorado in a couple of months to start a new job there!

There's only one big junction in New Mexico, so it must be that.

Don't forget to get snow stuff and new recipe books! You're higher than Ben Nevis there, and it has an effect on cooking - I've seen packaging in the States that has different instructions for if you are over 4000' - mostly longer cooking times if boiling, but baking has special problems.

How easy is it to move over there? We've had a few Sabristi move over there in the last few years including Nic and orudge. I heard you had to invest something like $100,000 into a business that will provide Americans with jobs.

In my case, I'm on an H1-B visa. To obtain such a visa, you require an employer to sponsor it, and you must remain employed by that company (or find another company to take over the visa). There are also a handful of conditions and so on that must be met (and, usually, there's a relatively low quota of visas issued, around 65,000 per year, which until last year, tended to only cover a third of the demand).

If you have suitable amounts of money, though, you can get to the US on your own if you're willing to invest it, indeed. There are a few other ways, too, but for the most part you need to either have a job waiting for you, or a US citizen as a spouse. You otherwise can't really just up sticks and move there (countries like Canada, Australia and New Zealand are much easier for a British citizen to move to).

(Perhaps this little train of discussion should be split into its own topic, it's not quite POTM-related any more!)
