Congratulations to rileyrob, whose photo of the B863 won the competition after a very tight finale in the polls!

Thanks to all who entered. As others have said, all photos were of a particularly high standard this month - well done.

I don't mind admitting that I voted for the M50, although I do like the Tay bridge too, and currently have stolen it for my Desktop wallpaper, if that's okay.

However, now I see the winner in the banner, I must say, its amazing. It looks like a painting of a perfect Loch Autumnal Day. An excellent picture, rileyrob!

Thanks to everyone who voted for mine! I was torn between my own and the M50 for a very long time before I finally voted, although I'm not saying which way...
I'm not sure I'll be able to take such a good photo again for a few months though, it was pure chance after all!

Whilst the winning pic is superb, as Nic however points out, this is not a photo of a road, it's a photo of a Loch which a road just happens to be in, we are not SABLE (Society for all British and Irish Loch Enthusiasts) are we??? More and more photo's (including one i entered i admit) seem to be of scenery instead of roads which slightly defeats the object a bit i think.

Just my thoughts........

What were you expecting to see from a Scottish viewpoint? Herds of Wildebeest sweeping majestically across the plain? The road is there. You just have to look. It's between the hills and the Loch.

Surely the appreciation of scenic roads comes within SABRE's remit just as much as the technical and historical aspects :D

I know but i'm edging towards Truvelo's argument about foreign roads. Take the Tay Bridge photo that won last Month, that IS a photo of a road, including stunning scenery.

I'm not taking anything away from Rob's photo, it's excellent and a quality winner.

Maybe adding themes to the POTM maybe a good idea so we don't get stuck in a rut and different styles/types of roads can be showcased......

In the past we have sometimes been struck in a rut with pictures of bridges

Yes, but it's the Loch that makes the picture what it is. If the picture had just been of the road I wouldn't have voted for it, nor would many others for that matter. Most, if not all, POTM winning pictures have won because of the landscape the road was in rather than the road itself.

If everyone just uploaded a picture of a road and nothing else then all the photos we'd see would be just be of tarmac and white paint. Part of my fascination with roads is the route they take through the landscape and how they deal with obstacles - hence the landscape around the road is just as important as the road itself otherwise driving really would be a dull experience.

When I go to take photos I don't take them with this competition in mind. If I'm taking a road photo I try to somehow show off what sort of landscape it's traversing which both caters for our enjoyment of roads as well as most people's desire just to see a nice photo. This road photo did well when I uploaded it to flickr because it did appeal to both sides.

I'd also like to say thanks to everyone who said nice things about my entry. I know uploading a second Tay Bridge photo probably wasn't the best idea but since the bridge is so close to home I tend to have a lot of photos of it in my archives.

The winning picture looks absolutely incredible as a banner. 'Tis my favorite for a long time.
