Welcome to the GusVoo quiz. Using Google Street View, I've cropped 4 images of roads in the UK. All you have to do is locate them (not the hard part, and decide (with reason) which the odd one out is.

Should you get an inventive OOO, that isn't what I was thinking, you could win a 'poy' (Half a point)

Number 4 is the second Severn Crossing, M4, I think.

I've identified 1, 3 and 4 and I've PM'd a guess as to the OOO to Nic. Clutching at straws though!

Cheers

Simon

#4 is the 2nd Severn Crossing, and Simon has correctly identified two of the other three locations, however, the thing connecting them that he suggested (double crossings) is not correct.

I should also say that the roads identified in the pictures are the subjects of the OOO, not specifically the location of the picture :-)

(its basically an OOO, with a fun introduction)

I've now identified all 4 sites and have had a guess. Probably miles out ;-)

I don't mind people having a guess in thread, or even identifying the roads in thread, opens it up a little more.

Simon - Its not a renumbering question, although I could see how, I think.

nowster - I wasn't thinking a royal connection, but then, your #3 isn't correct. It isn't in Cambridge.

Well #3 is the A49 crossing the Wye in Hereford, but you've ruled out my second crossing idea by saying it's to do with the roads.

Does 1 or 2 have a road number whose digits are not a square number (or the entire road number is not a square?)

Sadly not Square numbers, although the 14/15 yeras I teach could have been given the A144, the M25, the A49 and the A16, and still noever have realised they are all square numbers.

Anyway, back to the quiz.

Just to clarify all the roads in the quiz do something, its just one of them does it slightly differently, making it the OOO.

2 and 4 are east-west (ish)
3 is north-south.
I don't know where 1 is.

In No 1, are we looking for the road we're on, or the road that goes left/right at the lights?

It's the only one I vaguely knew (I'm normally useless at these). It's one of the approaches to Eboracum.

Picture 1 being the extreme end of the A1079 - is the location in the picture important, or is it just something about that road generally?

Picture 1: End of A1079 in York
Picture 2: End of M602 in Salford
Picture 3: A49 bypassing Hereford
Picture 4: M4 second Severn crossing.

1,2,4 are mainly east-west, certainly at the points depicted.
Only 3 is north-south.

Just for the record, my renumbering answer was that A1079 used to be part of the A66,part of the A49 used to be numbered M40, M602 was intended to be M52, then M64 whereas the M4 is the odd one out because part of the original M4 was renumbered to M48.

Another related attempt is that the M602 is the OOO because it was renumbered before it was opened whereas some or all of the others were renumbered after opening (parts of the M4 used to be A48, A48(M), A4 or A4(M).

Still stumped.

Simon

Well...

#1 is the only non-dual carriageway. It's also the only one that aims directly at a castle.

#4 isn't concerned with a cathedral city and doesn't have street lights

Difficult...

Derek

4 does have streetlights, it's just the brightness of the picture!!

And 1 is not directly at a castle, it's the city walls!

However, 1 is the only one where you can't go straight ahead!

You can, although it's a slight dog-leg. The stop line for facing traffic is behind the gate, and there will be a red for that traffic to allow the flow into Walmgate.

This used to be a particularly good pub, don't know whether it still is.

That's what I meant, not straight ahead, but on a dog-leg instead!

Also in the streetview link you've just posted, I'm sure the motorcycling shop there has not only closed down, the building itself has been knocked down!
