Just seen this over on Flickr...looks like Bradford had a few of our top entry oval lanterns! I do remember some of these on Barnfield Drive before replacement in 2004/5

Re: the lecky bill .. the Mercury lanterns only use 80w per lantern... but strangely they can all run with a 1 Amp fuse in line..... even with a surge ... so realistically they dont use alot...

I got some from the council in the 90s some i acquired from personal initiative and recently the new sub contracted company (enterprise Liverpool) at a cost ... and
Private land owners who upgraded their lighting so i emailed them and acquired them.

Good work there!

Are you planning on getting your hands on one of the tall mast lanterns from town? All replaced or due for replacement.

After looking on the scheduled works website, it looks as if all the main road ones are going. Riverside Drive and Islington appear to be unaffected.

Another Gas Lamp Project... i acquired another gas lantern which had been converted to electric....so i set about making the insides of it with parts i got from various sources..

the biggest challenge was to make the Mantle holders in the Liverpool style of the 20s and 30s...the important part was to get the Gas jet size right for use on propane gas witch runs at 37Mb...(millibar), the old streetlamps up to the late 1960s ran on Coal gas or Town gas at 6.25 Mb until natural gas was introduced and gas lamps were replaced. Natural gas was 20Mb.

2 months and alot of experiments i got it right.
