Yes, there's a big front page story in the local rag. Not at all surprised...

I feel a favourite phrase of Steven's fits the bill here. As far as I can tell, the majority of Aberdeen residents support the bypass, right?

(Edit : and that was post number 6000......)

This is what is wrong with this country -

If it were anywhere else they would have sorted this out one way or another. How can one man cause such issues and trouble ? Can they not sort it out ? or is this guy going to go on and on right up the courts to what level ? By the time that this is finished will he have spent the differenct it would be to have had this built as the M90 ?

In short, we live in a country where people are more interested in their own house value and have a relentless obsession with nostalgia and "keeping things as they were" and to hell with economics, technology and the opportunities for future generations.

You want to do anything different or build anything new in this country, there will be always be someone who feels that it is inherently wrong that things are changed. This isn't representative of everybody because most people don't find the time or money to launch endless appeals and spend decades of their lives fighting local authorities and the government over the placement of some tarmac that would suit everybody. However, the selfish busy-bodies like Walton who are out to prove some kind of point don't give a hell about the benefits of the bypass and only care about their own interests.

That is what is wrong with this country. If it were up to all these middle-class letter writing complainers like Walton, we would all sit around for the next 300 million years squabbling about our housing prices while the sun eventually swallows up the Earth.

Things must change, and stuff must be done for the very continuation of the human race and road building is one of those very tasks. However, as this thread has pointed out - not everyone sees things this way.

Road building is one of the necessary tasks to ensure the continuation of the human race? Really?

Yeah baby, without infrastructure nothing would work or go forward.

Think about what the motorways done for industry in this country.

I would love it, love it, if he failed again and the decision utterly bankrupted him.

People who throw the spanner in the works time and time again need to feel the consequences of their actions, he has cost the taxpayer x millions of pounds by playing the classic game as espoused in the roads protestors handbook. Keep delaying it, keep costs mounting, know that even if you lose the price of the project is now so high that you can add this to your pile of evidence to show roads building is a waste of resources.

It is a waste of resources if some...(insert your word of choice in here, I have a few)...decides to drag it through the courts 90 times and ensure that the CPOs lapse etc.

I loathe aspects of this country and how things, put in place to protect people, are exploited by interest groups or people with an axe to grind...Ultimatly, if people get given an inch and keep taking a mile, I can only see this being the result when the people of Aberdeen tire of the constant drone and disruption of traffic.

Please don't give us ideas on what to do with him. A jail term isn't a career enhancing move for me. But the act is very tempting...

This man is a total menace. And I bet if he doesnt win at the high court in London he will go onto the European court. And if the executive stop the bypass he will crow for years how he won and beat the system. It will open the floodgates to others like him. I too hope he fails and is made to pay for this in a big way.

Looking at this reminds me of a similar situation on the west coast. One family objected to the proposed change to a road, to take it from single track to two lane ,and remove a nasty corner and hill. From what I heard ,the objection was done on several grounds, but behind it all was the matter of compensation . Locals hinted that the claims were too greedy. In the end, with all the costs added up ,it was decided ,that taking into account compensation ,another route was to be used . Needless to say the family lost out big time.

As we no doubt all expected, our friend Mr Walton wants us to pay for his court action again. Judging by the St Andrews case recently, I guess it'll be granted, too.

I wonder if there's any way the Scottish Government can pull some strings to get the hearing moved forward as a matter of urgency!

I've noticed in recent days that some construction crews, equipment and access tracks have sprung up on both sides of the A944, slightly west of the Kingswells roundabout. Does anybody know their purpose? It looks suspiciously like someone's sneakily doing ground work (which is my hope!) but I wouldn't be surprised if it's something more mundane. Just odd that the areas they are working on are right on the route and in particular up around the area of where a junction will be...

My birthday! Let's hope the Supreme Court judges deliver me a nice birthday present, eh?

At least it's happening fairly soon. I daresay we may have to wait a bit longer when Walton inevitably gets kicked out of the Supreme Court and decides to go to Europe with it...

Could have been much worse to be sure.

I wonder if some in Central Government have leant on the planners at the Supreme Court to bump this up the priority chain for the obvious reason that if the S-word was the I-word, this would be over now and the last thing Central Government wants is to give the other S-word another stick with which to beat the U-word.

I was surprised it's so soon. I wasn't expecting anything till September so the quicker the better.

I too hope that it's a good result though I suspect Europe will be paid a visit by these...well, use your own words!!
