The problems with giving specific completion dates is made all too apparent with this project.

Given it was supposedly 'ahead' of schedule, perhaps some of the earlier back-patting and hubris in a number of journals should have been reserved for the actual completion day.

I have been meaning to dig out those articles which said the project would land 3 months ahead of schedule in December 2011.

Utterly laughable looking back now, pretty sure that article was only posted last summer.

Was their a specific date orginally?

I thought it was just "by spring" which could be anytime up until end of April, so two months late.

The original signs said August 2010 - March 2012.

So June 27 will be 3 months late then.

Im not actually fussed about whether its delivered on time, its the length of time that the roads are gridlocked thats the problem.

If they can get the underpass open then a lot of the issues will improve.

If it takes a little longer to finish parts off fine, but at present the whole access to the south East of Essex is being massively impacted, especially in the evenings.

Sorry to be pedantic but 3 months isnt almost 4 months, its 3 months, in fact the 27th June is less than 3 months. You might as well say its almost 2 months late as its closer to 2 than 4 :)

You cant criticise them for not being accurate with dates then do exactly the same...

In Tracey Chapman's recent statement, prior to her resigning, she stated the North bound side of the underpass link road would be opened by the 16th.

It didnt look like it was even tarmac when I drove through this morning.

Any idea when this will open as from what I can see this will have the biggest impact on evening traffic from London ?

from the guy I spoke to in the next 2-3 weeks,I am going to ring him again today as per his suggestion, they know how desperate this is.

Did you manage to speak to him ?

I'm criticising them over the poor management that has led this project to slip behind, not the inaccurate completion dates. It depends entirely on what point of March you calculate it from. I was going from the beginning of March based on articles I read a few years ago which obviously don't apply now. March 1st - June 1st is 3 months, March 1st - 27th June is almost 4 months.

Not that any of this is relevant anyway, I'm going to remove myself from this debate before my soul gets sucked into oblivion.

I drove West along the A13 through Sadlers yesterday at about 6.25 in the evening and the queue on the A13 going East was way past the Stanford turnoff. I couldn't do that everyday .I'd rather get the train or buy a scooter.
It seems to be Tarpots now causing delays on the roundabout.

Indeed, it was worse than normal last night. Normally it goes back to the 5 Bells, last night it was a good mile or so past it.

I went through Basildon to the A127 but that was at a standstill from Basildon (and no doubt further west).

Just shows how badly the salders farm junction is affecting the whole of south east Essex.

Unfortunately my job doesnt allow me to get the train and I have to drive through it. Only so often I can work from home...

yep..agreed.one lane exit for tarpots is backing up traffic the whole way round the round-about.yet another example of starting another part of the project before finishing one...its like these guys get bored and think what can we mess up next....

I Just spoke to Neil at Birse,he has told me the northbound slip road to the A130 will be open by next Monday 23rd (st georges day, I can think of an old dragon worth slaying ),they are tarmacing (sorry for spelling) 24 hours a day,his words.
He now has temporary lights coming,he now has Essex CC and his director with him and is taking them on site to get permission to put them in.They inundated with complaints,if ok the lights should be in latest tomorrow evening.I believe him in what he wants to ,it just Essex CC who are causing the delays, due to their penny pinching and not caring a hoot for commuters.Hope those concerned all get voted out at the upcoming elections. So that is what I have just been told.So here's hoping

Thanks Michael, much appreciated.

Heres hoping that opening the northbound underpass road will alleviate the queues to sadlers.

Thanks for the update Michael.

I'll be very surprised if the A13/A130 northbound link will be open on Monday, there's still so much work to be done close by on the Southbound link that it'll surely be too much of a hindrance, it'll be interesting to see what happens.

Not entirely sure what's happening with the new A130(S) road either. They've been tarmacking it for a while now and it looks severely out of shape and at present it doesn't link to the existing road. I think it'll be a while yet before traffic is switched over.

I have been having problems negotiating the roundabout due to the backlog from tarpots. Coming up Canvey Way I have been getting into the right hand land for the A130, purely because it's the third exit so I believe that's the correct lane to be in. However most people use the inside lane and miss the A13 and Pound Lane turning. Also when I'm in the right hand lane I get blocked by the traffic coming from the A13/Pound Lane heading towards Tarpots, it's a right old mess.

Hi Chaps

I've been reading all your comments and thought i should join up, i live on Pound lane and from 2pm each day i wouldn't dream of heading towards Saddlers, always go through Burnt Mills

luckly i travel to work my motorbike so no problem with the traffic but get to see the hold ups, i agree that there seems to be so more to do on everything and can't see it done until well after the Summer.

What puzzles me is the amount of different tarmac strips that have been layed, it will all need re-tarmacing when it's finally open!!!

keep the updates coming

Cheers

As I said ,it is what he told me,I was extremely suprised also.He had no reason to do so.Only time will tell, but it is one the most almightly messes I have ever seen, still anyone who remembers Rayleigh weir underpass construction can sympathise, must be something to do with Essex.

well so much for 24 hour a day tarmacing..ive just been through at 6.30pm last night and 5.30am this morning and there is no evidence of any work going on....even the conemen have decided not to bother (if you cant beat them ).when will Neil understand that just telling stories isnt going to get anything done, besides there are thousands of witnesses proving that his is lying.palming people off might work for a day or two but Tracey Chapman found out you cant carry out this ruse forever.

on the upside i might use this idea myself and tell my boss im working 24 hours a day too...i will let you know how i get on!!

I drove through late last Saturday and they were tarmacking the new A130(S) road, that was around 12:30am. Probably the only time I have seen work going on that late.

Some of the temporary barriers have been removed on the A130(S)and replaced by cones, so despite my earlier doubts it looks like traffic might be switched over onto the new road very soon, I'll post another update when I drive through later.

This whole project is definitely becoming a massive headache for locals. You only have to look on social networking sites to see how many people it's affecting. Also the rise in new users on this forum alone looking for more information in the last 2 months pays homage to that.

i also share your anger and frustration, but let's wait til monday before calling the guy a liar,if you had to deal with the clowns at Essex county council.Believe me if it is not open Monday I will be calling the council. It is getting worse, especially with tarpots. My concern is if you speed up on A13 it will pile up at the roundabout anyway due to tarpots, they have to get their fingers out
