I've had a look at this project again, and had a go at adding some more information, creating Warning Sign/Opening Bridge. This isn't my area of expertise though, so I'll need some assistance with filling it out.

What would be useful is to put together a progress chart, to see where we are and what's needs doing. At the moment, aside from the redlinks I can see at the bottom of the warning sign pages, it's not particularly obvious what we're lacking on.

Thanks for your work and for pointing this out. I've now deleted the "Quayside_or_Riverbank" gallery as an Obsolete page.

Cheers, having finished my part time degree I've now got a bit more time to get back into fixing things and adding information here - currently working through pictures without coords and my own archive of photos.

Having recently been involved in a rather protracted discussion about signage on the main forum, I realized that there's very little reliable information available about the definitions of the various terms involved. This came up specifically in the context of the word "patch", which seems to be defined one way in the official literature but is quite commonly used differently here on SABRE. Different sources on the Web give different definitions, to add to the confusion.

Might it be useful to give definitions of the most commonly used terms in the Wiki to avoid similar misunderstandings in future? We could compile a list here perhaps - "patch" and "panel" clearly need explaining and differentiating for starters. I could go ahead and create the pages myself, but I'm no expert in any of this.

Your idea for better coverage of this area in the Wiki is a good one, Brock. An article -- http://www.sabre-roads.org.uk/wiki/inde ... e=LTN_1/94 -- does already exist touching on the "Guildford rules", and I think that this, or a reworking of it, would be a good home for an elucidation of the "patches 'n' panels" question.

I'll have a look at it myself [*] as soon as I've completed a major re-examination of Wikipedia articles on broadcasting in the Netherlands (my geekery is not confined to roads!).

[*] That isn't to say you shouldn't get involved directly yourself: the way to become "expert" in the SABRE Wiki is to join in. Mistakes can always be corrected (that's the beauty of a wiki) -- as I've discovered to my relief! -- and the more Sabristi that get involved the more likely it is that errors won't survive for too long.

Yes, that's not a bad overview, but I was wondering if we ought to have individual pages defining all the terms involved, or at least a page dedicated to road sign terminology. There are pages for things like "grade-separated junction" when it comes to the roads themselves.

Incidentally the link on that page to the original document is broken - I can substitute M4Mark's link if you like.

I've contributed quite a bit to the Wiki already, including the initial draft of the page on numbering principles, but I try to stick to stuff I know a bit about! I don't mind drafting a page on sign terminology but it's likely to be full of errors. On the other hand, as a novice I may be more aware of which terms need defining - I had to consult the DfT document for "stack type sign" for instance, as I didn't know what they were called (despite having seen thousands of them). Pages on terms like that would be very helpful in my view.

Sorry to bring this thread to the surface again, but if anyone was wondering I have SVGs (taken from Kyts) of traffic signs that can be easily converted to PNG at any size, if anyone wants them for the wiki. (I also have the correct colour palette for the signs as well.)

You can download images of the signs from this government website. The doiwnloads are zipped and can be expanded to JPG or EPS format. If you want an SVG format, there are many EPS to SVG convertors available on-line.
