Well, it's a missed opportunity for a cycle lane or parking (depending what there's more of on that road). You couldn't legally pass a bike, milk float, mobility scooter, broken down car ... . At least a bus lane pretends to be useful ;-) That said, I think bus lanes that narrow wear out extremely quickly because all the wear is in one place?

I get your point - there's a bottleneck coming up anyway, so why bother having another lane in the first place if it doesn't improve traffic flow. That said, it probably does by letting people past dawdlers.

One bridge...

Two heights

I took that to mean you'll get 10' through the centre, wouldn't fancy trying it out mind you. Legit way of signing or just a cock up? All the other signs on the approach say 9'6".

I'd say cock up as the direction sign has a roundel but the bridge has triangles.
lose: (v): to suffer the deprivation of - to lose one's job; to lose one's life.

loose: (a): free or released from fastening or attachment - a loose end.

Just before M6 J16, where you're deciding which route to take to London:

"Major roadworks on M6 J13 - 10A. Delays likely. These works do not affect M6 Toll."

So how do I get from Stoke to the Toll without being affected by these roadworks near Stafford? I'd like to take their route!

Capitalisation is just a no no.

Am I also thinking Birmingham Airport its one of the few places with gantries above a non A or B road. (Answers on a postcard) (or seperate thread).

Suspect most airports will count.

Bracknell town centre is a quirkier entry.

As vile as these are, the replacements, (no photos, sorry :( ), are even worse - no patches and the signs are split in the most bizarre fashion! Saw them on my way home on Thursday.

They've made a pig's ear of a lot of the signage there.

That sign is, as you say, patchless
The A6 is signed as (A6)
The A453 signed as A452

At least the signs and lanes match up, unlike some other projects.

And A6 is in both lanes 1 and 3, without distinguishing which way. Yes, it has the names of towns on it, but if you're just thinking "North" or "South", that means nothing.

As much as those signs are awful, the bracketing is correct - the A6 meets the junction directly from the south east, but towards Derby follows the A50 for a couple of miles, and therefore is (A6).

Where is the sign for A452? Am I not really awake enough to be driving in a couple of minutes?

On the A453 from the airport, the lane for the A6 towards Loughborough is marked as (A6). I hadn't noticed, but now you mention it, I wouldn't be surprised if Derby was marked just as A6!

Not seen it myself, but I'm positive someone on here mentioned it recently.

It's In Real Life. Google Street View hasn't updated yet.

What on earth has gone on here?

Image
Achterneed Level Crossing

The surface over the crossing has been replaced and the stop lines have been reinstated with give-way markings in their place. Why would someone (Network Rail or their contractors?) think it is a good idea to have give way markings at a crossing with wig-wag signals and barriers?
The road markings were correct previously, when the barriers were installed in late 2013.

If approved by the DfT that is perfectly fine.

Part of me twitches when I see a blue sign that's not on a motorway.

I spotted a botch on a mad tour of south and east London this morning during an effort to catch the wife's brother at various locations along the London Marathon route...

A102

Unfortunately every available view on Streetview has pixellated the bottom sign (possibly to spare the designer's blushes) - it warns of the width restrictions in Kidbrooke, however the width shown on this sign is "7.5T"
