Re: A585 and Fylde
The public consultation on this scheme is now up and running. Note the proposal for a land bridge along the route, presumably due to Singleton Hall complex being close by. It is good to see the eastbound old road being closed instead of having another junction with the new route.
It is also good to see D2 instead of S2!
The proposed link road to Shard Bridge from the new route has been removed due to environmental reasons.
The next hold up for traffic will be Esprick just off the M55.

Re: A585 and Fylde
I think this scheme is relatively OK for what it does. Get it built.

Re: A585 and Fylde
At Windy Harbour there could be a freeflow left turn slip from Fleetwood Road onto the new road. This could form lane 1 of the D2 with lane 2 coming from the traffic lights. Although two signal controlled left turn lanes will improve matters I can still see queues approaching these lights being a problem during peak hours.
How would you like your grade separations, Sir?

HE's application recently went to the Planning Inspectorate.

Re: A585 and Fylde
From the work plans submitted the junction with Garstang New Road is now a signalised cross roads and not a roundabout, shame its not Grade separated.wrinkly wrote: ↑Sun Nov 04, 2018 19:33 HE's application recently went to the Planning Inspectorate.

Therefore given the HE with a 3 mile dc and four signalised junctions, can't see this being 70mph.

The general arrangement plans are probably easier to read than the works plans.

No it'll definitely be 50. However the existing road is 50 too so that's not a great loss.A303Chris wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 13:42From the work plans submitted the junction with Garstang New Road is now a signalised cross roads and not a roundabout, shame its not Grade separated.wrinkly wrote: ↑Sun Nov 04, 2018 19:33 HE's application recently went to the Planning Inspectorate.

The extra lanes will make this regularly naffed up bit of the A585 a lot easier to get through. However given Fleetwood seems to be inactive as a port recently do HE know something we don't?
Or is this part of a future detrunking agreement that LCC get a bypass before they take possession?

Re: A585 and Fylde
I have friends in Poulton, whose parents live in Fleetwood so know the A585 well. I have to admit the closure of the roll on roll off ferry did improve journey times to and from the M55. It was a real slog if you left or were arriving before or after an arrival / departure especially the number of HGV's on the road. Not that its not a slog normally.Bryn666 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 15:16

However, Associated British Ports are still marketing the ROLO of the port, so wonder if there is an interested party but wants improvements to the A585 first

2.4.10 here says the new alignment will be NSL.

Re: A585 and Fylde
Four signalised junctions on a short stretch of NSL rural dual carriageway is pretty abnormal. It wouldn't be so bad if they allowed the left turns (and westbound straight-on at the T) to be lane gains or give ways, but it seems everyone must pay homage to the almighty signals.
Re: A585 and Fylde
They can say it'll be NSL but the road safety audit will put paid to it. 60 mph is usually seen as the upper limit for signalised dual carriageways these days.jackal wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 21:38 Four signalised junctions on a short stretch of NSL rural dual carriageway is pretty abnormal. The left turns are presumably pedestrian demand stages rather than forcing left turns to stop for no reason. However, it is a HE scheme so I wouldn't be surprised if congestion is designed in through the sheer inability of their guys to design junctions...

If you look at the general arrangement plans wrinkly posted some of the left turns with signals have no pedestrian crossing.Bryn666 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 21:50They can say it'll be NSL but the road safety audit will put paid to it. 60 mph is usually seen as the upper limit for signalised dual carriageways these days.jackal wrote: ↑Mon Nov 05, 2018 21:38 Four signalised junctions on a short stretch of NSL rural dual carriageway is pretty abnormal. Their glossy PDF caused my high spec laptop to hang. I gave up trying to look.
If there are no ped demand stages on some junctions there is NO reason to bring that arm to a halt other than a sheer inability to design roads.

The footbridge at the eastern end really should have been a Dutch style underpass, those approach ramps make it a massive detour for cycling.IAN wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2023 20:32 Recent drone footage shows that the project is at an advanced stage.

Opening on the 18th but initially at 30mph and "in single file". It will get up to 70mph and four lanes later in the winter. Do they think they're commissioning a nuclear reactor?

At least people are less likely to relieve themselves or attack you on a bridge than in an underpass.
