Help: Posting FAQ
Look here for guidelines on what to post, and how to deal with official procedures such as making a complaint or participating in a vote. The Forums FAQ deals with the technicalities of using the message boards.

What is regarded on-topic and off-topic?
As SABRE is a roads appreciation site, we request that you bear the following guidelines in mind when posting to the message boards. If you want to go 'off topic' then feel free to use Sabristi Unleashed! and continue your discussion there.

On the main SABRE message boards, anything that is roads related is acceptable - for example road history, road safety, planning and design issues, environmental issues directly linked to road planning and design, road numbering, signage, road related quizzes. Also acceptable are announcements to SABRE members - even occasional plugs to off-topic discussions on Sabristi Unleashed!.

Items that are considered off-topic include general environmental issues that are not directly linked to road planning or design; other modes of transport; or cars. There is no problem with discussing other modes of transport on the main boards if you are comparing them with roads, but if the discussion moves away from roads related issues then it is 'off-topic'.

There will obviously be a grey area where a thread begins discussing roads related items but then goes on to talk about something else - for example rail policy. If this happens, please take the discussion to Sabristi Unleashed. Please use your discretion - don't be afraid to post, but equally, please don't be offended if the Management request that a topic is taken to Sabristi Unleashed.

Can I post maps?
Ordnance Survey Maps are Crown Copyright. Neither SABRE nor the SABRE Management Team are responsible for Ordnance Survey mapping copied, altered or posted by its members. Any Ordnance Survey mapping images that appear on SABRE will be removed within 14 days. In addition, neither SABRE nor the SABRE Management Team can be held responsible for Ordnance Survey images held on MSN member webspace (as distinct from SABRE's MSN webspace) or reached via links to other sites. SABRE is not responsible for the content of any other site to which a link is provided from this site.

Images of copyright maps are tolerated for 14 days. It doesn't matter whether the map is a straight scan or a copy from an online source, nor whether it's been edited in some way or even completely redrawn - only that it was copyright when you started with it. After 14 days, such images can be deleted without further warning.

If you want to keep stuff longer, then feel free to take it to your own website and provide a link to it instead - but be aware that whichever way you do it, you're still completely responsible for anything you publish.

How do I add entries to First 99 (A1-99 listings)?
Please post new entries to the "First 99" message board. (For long entries you may prefer to use a file attachment rather than typing them straight in the text box.) This gives other members a chance to comment on them before they are uploaded.

How do I add material to Roads by 10 (A100-999 listings)?
The easiest way is to post it to the "Roads by 10" board in the Forums.

How do votes work?
As a democratic Society, SABRE holds votes of the membership from time to time. In April of every year, our annual elections are held to select a President, Site Management team and Treasurer. The results of this are announced at the AGM. There may also be occasional votes to make exceptional decisions or to ban members.

Votes are held by the President, who will post a call to votes on the Forums. It will explain who is eligible to vote and how to do so. The usual procedure is to email the President stating your screen name and your vote. The results will then be announced online, or in the case of the annual elections, announced at the AGM and then posted online shortly afterwards.

Votes are held in accordance with SABRE's Constitution.

How do I complain about other members or the management team?
Please don't post any form of personal abuse to the message boards - it spoils the society for the other members. If you have a grievance, please contact the person concerned directly if possible, or use "Send Email to Managers" if it's a management issue. If you're still dissatisfied, SABRE has a President - currently Ritchie Swann - who is independent of the management and can take action if necessary. In extreme cases, subject to a vote by the members, it is possible for disruptive members to be banned or for the management team to be dismissed.
