A1 London (Goswell Road, Upper Street, Holloway Road, Archway Road) - Barnet - Baldock - Stamford - Grantham - Newark-upon-Trent - Doncaster - Wetherby - Boroughbridge - Northallerton - Darlington - Durham - Newcastle-upon-Tyne - Berwick-upon-Tweed - Haddington - Edinburgh Originally ran through Barnet now A1000; bypassed by A1(M); original line near Doncaster ran through Retford-Ranskill-Doncaster - changed when A1(M) built. In North Yorkshire left present route at Boroughbridge, along what's now an unclassified road, then Dishforth airbase, then up the A167 to Darlington. In Newcastle ran through centre of city.
A10 London (Kingsland Road - Stamford Hill) - Tottenham - Ware - Royston - Cambridge - Ely - Kings Lynn In London ran along what's now A1010
A11 London (Whitechapel Road, Mile End Road, Bow Road, High Road, Leyton) - Epping - Bishop's Stortford - Newmarket - Thetford - Norwich Between Bow and Stump Cross the road was downgraded to such numbers as A118, A104, B1393, A1184 and B1383.
A12 Stratford - Romford - Brentwood - Chelmsford - Colchester - Ipswich - Lowestoft - Great Yarmouth In London ran from Stratford to Gallows Corner along what's now the A118. From thereon as now give or take a few dozen bypasses
A13 London (Commercial Road East, East India Dock Road, Barking Road) - Barking - Aveley - Stanford-le-Hope - Southend-on-Sea - Shoeburyness In East Ham ran on what's now A124, in Dagenham ran on what's now A1306, in both Rainham and Aveley it ran on what's now B1335, in Grays ran on Lodge Lane and A1013, in Stanford ran on what's now Southend Road and in Pitsea on what's now B1464.
A14 Royston - Huntingdon - Alconbury Hill A14 now refers to a completely different route - Catthorpe to Felixstowe. Original now partly A1198.
A15 Norman Cross - Peterborough - Bourne - Sleaford - Lincoln - Brigg - Hull Pre Humber bridge it turned off the A18, ran along B1206 to New Holland. In Hull the section from the ferry to the A63 was also A15.
A16 Stamford - Spalding - Boston - Louth - Grimsby
A17 Newark-upon-Trent - Sleaford - Holbeach - King's Lynn - Swaffham Originally continued along the A47 as far as Swaffham (the A47 originally went from Wisbech to Swaffham via Downham Market), until 1st April 1933.
