The A1058(M) is a short stub of Newcastle upon Tyne's unbuilt Coast Road Motorway, which was planned to go from the A167(M) Central Motorway East out to the Coast Road at its junction with the A188. As only a short section was built the western end of the A1058 remains single-carriageway.
Signage plans for the A1(M) Central Motorway East show that the A1058(M) was at least meant to be signed as such, despite images from 1981 showing it signed as A1058. Presently, the A1058(M) number is known solely from a blue route confirmation sign, which, however, refers to it as A1058 (however, cf the A695(M)'s similar position).
All present signage approaching the junction of Jesmond Road A1058 and Osborne Road B1600 sign it as simply A167(M) with chopsticks on the ADS, however there is no chopsticks sign on the road itself to denote the start of motorway restrictions.
