The A1166 is a fairly important link road to the west of Hull city centre. Although 'D2' for all of its length, cycle lanes and parking bays restrict much of the road. It is not marked A1166 to any degree - more often 'Ring Road', although it only forms a fraction of a ring.
Route
The road leaves the A1105 at the Fiveways roundabout in Anlaby Park. It heads southeastwards along Askew Avenue, which is residential and tree-lined. At the next roundabout the road turns left into Hessle Road, a previous line of the A1105 and the original A63; the older age of this section of road is immediately obvious by the buildings lining it. However, they soon disappear and we cross a railway line. As we descend, Hessle Road continues at 12 o'clock whilst we bear right to a roundabout and head south along Brighton Street. The first roundabout serves a retail park, after which we continue to end at a roundabout GSJ on the A63.
History
Brighton Street Interchange Link Road
The 0.4 mile road from Hessle Road to Brighton Street Interchange was opened on 30 January 1984 per the Land Compensation Act notice. It was in advance of A63 Clive Sullivan Way opening in 1985 and provided access to St. Andrew's Dock.
