The A35 is a short A road in Onchan, running the full length of Royal Avenue. It starts at a signalised junction on the A2 in the centre of the village, and heads almost due south down Royal Avenue, passing through suburbia, to reach a Stop line opposite the entrance to the Port Jack Glen park. Royal Avenue, and the A35, dogleg to the left around the park, crossing the vast tarred area of Royal Drive. The section to the left is the B54, that to the right may also be the B54, or it might be the B48. The road down the east side of the park is one way southbound, the B48 on the western side providing for northbound traffic.
As far as can be ascertained, the A35 comes to an end at the end of Royal Avenue, where it meets the B57, Strathallan Road. Traffic trying to reach the A11 along the coast has to turn left onto the B57, and then right onto the B56 to reach the A11 at Port Jack, a total distance of less than 80m! The logic behind this strange situation is not known, but all is confirmed by the Isle of Man's official GIS website.
History
As originally numbered in the 1920's, the route was given the B27 number. It had been renumbered as the A35 by 1963, at which point the OS One Inch map appears to show the A35 meeting the A11, as the B27 appears to have done before it. It is unclear why it was ever curtailed.
