The A4076 Milford Haven to Haverfordwest road starts at a junction with unclassified roads at the northern end of Milford Haven Docks, some 150 m southwest of the town's railway station. From here it runs along Victoria Road, Hamilton Terrace, and Great North Road before leaving the town and heading through Johnston (where it meets the A477) to Merlin's Bridge, now part of the conurbation of Haverfordwest. From Merlin's Bridge roundabout the A4076 skirts the southeastern side of Haverfordwest proper before turning right at the Salutation Square roundabout (near Pembrokeshire County Hall) to meet the A40 at Scotchwell.
Apart from the fact that the A4076 has been rerouted in Haverfordwest, the road still follows its 1922 route.
