The road was created in the 1960s when the A440 was abolished. The westernmost section of that road was renumbered A4532, together with the northernmost section of the B4208 to take the road back to the A449.
The A4532 left the A449 in Malvern Link and headed south along Pickersleigh Road to Barnard's Green. It then turned west along Barnard's Green Road and Church Street to reach the A449 again in Great Malvern.
The road has now been downgraded. Pickersleigh Road is half unclassified, half B4208, thus returning the road to its original number. The rest of the ex-A4532 (the former A440) is numbered B4211.
