For the current route with this number near to Buxton, see A5004.
In the original 1922 road numbering, the A5004 number was allocated to Link at Cavendish Bridge, placing it in the extreme north-west corner of Leicestershire near to Castle Donington.
It was a tiny link road running north-south between the A453 (now unclassified) and A6 (now B5010) that has been almost entirely obliterated by the modern A50 and its east-facing sliproads to the junction with the B5010 and B6540. There are two small stubs of "Donington Lane" still extant, either side of the A50; the right-of-way has been preserved and is used by a cycle path which uses an underpass under the A50 just to the west of the original line of the A5004.
The road had been downgraded in the 1960s so was not used by through traffic at the time Donington Lane was severed by the new A50.
