The A5029 is a short link road to the west of Birkenhead town centre.
The road starts on the A552 Borough Road and heads roughly northwards along Exmouth Street and Watson Street to reach the A5030 Cleveland Street.
Old maps suggest that the A5029 multiplexed with the A5030 east for one block before heading north along Freeman Street, whereas now no multiplex is needed as the A5029 simply continues north along Rendel Street into the dockyard, passing the now-disused entrance to the Queensway Tunnel en route.
The 1922 Road Lists describe the A5029 as ending at the Seacombe Ferry which must have left from this area, crossing the docks. The docks are now easily crossed by road, however, and the A5029 now crosses a disused level crossing before ending on a roundabout with the A554.
