Llanddulas Interchange is junction 23 of the A55.
History
A 0.75-mile section of the then A55, now A547, was dualled online, opening in 1963 and extending westward from a point near the site of the then future interchange.
The first version of the interchange opened in 1968 with the completion of the Abergele bypass to the east. The A55 mainline ran from the new bypass onto the section dualled in 1963. Traffic joining or leaving the eastbound carriageway passed under the mainline by a new bridge.
In 1984 the junction was altered to incorporate the new A55 Colwyn Bay bypass. Most of the 1968 layout including the bridge was re-used. The east end of 1963 dual carriageway, on what now became the A547, was realigned and reduced to single carriageway.
