The A6027 forms the purpose built Horwich Link (known better as De Havilland Way) near Bolton, between the A6 and A673, crossing the M61 at Junction 6. It is, for its entire length, dual carriageway, although only the section east of the M61 is primary. It is also limited to 40 mph, and has a junction at Mansell Way that seems to suggest a GSJ was planned, although quite why this was the case as the road ends 200 yards east of there is unknown.
The key function of this road is to provide access to the large Middlebrook Retail Park and Macron, formerly Reebok, Stadium. The volume of traffic using this short road can therefore be astronomical and queues on all approaches are common.
