The A722 is a short route which heads east out of the Lanarkshire town of Wishaw for just under two miles.
Wishaw
The route beginson the A721 at Wishaw East Cross in Wishaw town centre, opposite the B7032 and heads north east as Kirk Road, passing a mixture of shops, flats and civic buildings, interspersed with a couple of bungalows set in spacious gardens. The B7033 is met at a large roundabout where the A722 turns a little further east, staying on Kirk Road past the supermarket and through a series of mini roundabouts for the busier junctions. This is now proper suburbia, with often large detached and semi detached houses on either side of the road. After passing the old kirk, the new kirk is met at the third mini roundabout, beyond which the A722 follows Cambusnethan Street into the Cambusnethan district. At length, green spaces start to squeeze in between the houses, and fields can be glimpsed through the trees. The route then becomes Manse Road as it enters Newmains, and soon a line of shops stands to the left, facing onto blocks of flats and houses. The route then comes to an end at the Newmains Roundabout where it meets the A71 and A73.
